In all seriousness, I too was horrified reading that article, and there is no rightful response to a child being an attention whore that involves violent threats or vandalism. But at the same time, for the child to continue with that behavior, and the parents to allow that to continue, after all that occurred, it's just beyond bizarre, and half of me feels sympathy for them while the other half wants to ask "well wuddja expect?"
Exactly. The plug could have been pulled years ago, and she could have gone into counseling. Instead, they allowed the abuse to continue. Of course, it's possible that such abuse may have continued even after going offline, but given the lifespan of Internet zeitgeist, I doubt it would've lasted until the present.

    Politeness, or passive-aggressiveness? Or both?

I'm glad I have a family where that message would have been:

Mum: Hey, just calling to say, bring some potato salad to Easter dinner. See you when you get here! Oh and bring whatever you want to drink, but we've got plenty of beer.

Batman is envious of all of you and your parent calls.

Oh, yeah, I guess writing it out doesn't really convey tone. She wanted potato salad but was afraid it was impolite to ask for it outright.

I personally think it's a little early in the season for potato salad, but my parents love my recipe. Besides, it's very Eastery. It has... um... eggs.

I tried to make potato salad this winter and I had to throw it out. It was a miserable failure. It was too cold to enjoy it (and particularly cold in my house.) I was shivering and trying to force myself to take bites, like "I AM NOT ENJOYING THIS." Then I tried to heat it up and that... didn't work.

Hey, do you guys up north have Publix supermarkets? Their deli section has a red potato salad that is the best you'll ever eat. It's the reason I quit making my homemade potato salad. I mean, why bother?

    Hey Mara!

You know who Batman never writes Christmas cards for?

    His parents!

Well, if you'd get a space heater or heat that igloo up, you'd know that eating potato salad is just fine in a well-heated room. :P

10th anniversary 9/11 shirts being sold by the FDNY.

I'd be offended if I were part of them.

Is it raising money for the families, or something? I could kind of see that.

I'd have to look deeper. I do know that they are already being compensated for life for the line of duty death.

I just used a gun for the first time. Smith and Wesson 686 .357 magnum. Went to a range and shot fifty bullets. Not only did I have a damn good time, but I also had damn good aim. I credit that to copious amounts of Resident Evil 4.

I can see why Scar loves this.

Speaking of, police are investigating a few death threats sent to Rebecca Black, promising to kill her for making "Friday."

    See?
Yeah, that's what prompted me to post the Kiki article. I suppose what's most fascinating to me about this is that some people feel so emotionally attached to a silly internet video. They seem to truly feel that it is something that has infringed upon their lives. They feel like it is something that they have to process and respond to, rather than just realizing that it is an utterly insignificant piece of strangeness and moving on.

Meg, there's no easy way to say this. But I feel like you're ready to handle it.

    Batman is fictional.

    Cool.

I've got a Ruger GP-100 which is very similiar, but a bit more stocky. Currently, I've been eye balling a Ruger #1 in 30-06.

I gotta get out and shoot more. Once it finally warms up, I'll be doing much more rifle shooting.

Heh, nice. And I second what Scar said about warm weather leading to me hopefully heading to the gun range. I'd love to in the future get a really nice new shotgun, and maybe another rifle, too.

I accidentally punched myself in the eye on Saturday morning.

I was trying to start my lawn mower and my hand slipped off the pull cord in mid pull. WHACK, right in the eye. Knocked my glasses off my face and gave my blurry vision for a moment.

It was funny as hell when it happened. Now it just hurts like hell. Aspirin did nothing.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’
