What's interesting about Natal not requiring a controller, unlike the Wii or the new PS3 motion wand thing, is that you already have a controller. They didn't demo this during the press conference, but they talked about it in interviews afterwards. The great thing about the tech is that it does not supplant regular controllers. You can sit on your couch playing games with your regular Xbox 360 controller and also use Natal at the same time. It does a lot more than just waggle controls for "nongames." Like head tracking, voice recognition, etc. For other stuff like Wii Sports style games, anything can become a controller.
