Woke up to 3" of snow and my car frozen over / shut.
Happy May 1st, everyone!
My birthday is the 20th. If there's snow on the ground, I'm going to pull a Scar and burn this mother down.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
Rained all day yesterday...right up until a couple hours before kids baseball game. Sat out there freezing our collective asses off in winter coats.
Injured my foot 2 days ago. Getting on a 3.5 hour flight in just a few hours. (Going to visit my mom, who just successfully completed cancer treatments.) Told her and my step-dad that my visit will likely be low-key. Lots of sitting around and stuff. They have an Alamo Drafthouse just blocks from them, so that is going to definitely happen in the next week. (Let's see if I can convince them to see Godzilla vs. Kong. I bet my mom will be game, but my step-dad doesn't like modern movies, so I'll guess that he's going to back out.) Also planning to take them to an upscale restaurant (steak?) for Mom's day. I'll have my laptop with me, so I doubt Match Cut will notice any difference.

Have a great trip! Please post some food porn!

TUrned on my house fans today. 80+ in Colorado. Probably time to bring out the summer clothes.
It was 28°C here today. We went for a walk in full summer clothes for the first time. We had freezing temperatures as recently as the 17th. This is completely nuts.
84F here today. Fingers crossed there’ll be no more frost, so I planted a few tomato plants, peppers, and what not. Then on a whim I planted three different types of blueberry bushes (multiple varieties for cross pollination result in better berries). They won’t produce for a few years, but this is what happens when I go to Home Depot by myself.

Yeah it was 87 today. I went for a walk and roasted in the process.

Its gonna hit 70f here today and tomorrow. Today only hit 60f. I'm excited for the warm weather, April was pretty cool though luckily not too damp.
I guess I didn't realize just how close we are in proximity. Are you southern NH?Quoting Mal (view post)
Anyone here have experience with a mirror less camera? I was looking in to buying a used DSLR and realized that the came has very much changed in the last decade (since I last paid attention). I have a budget of under 500. After a day of research, seems like they're equally matched with pros/cons/features in that price range. I have zero experience with mirror less and love to use DSLR (though optical viewfinder is not too, too important for me), but I'm down for new tech if it's worthwhile. Thoughts?

Really weird you're posting this because I am also interested in a mirrorless camera and was also surprised at the change in technology. LOL. Only experience I have is with a Cannon Rebel. Super entry level.Quoting quido8_5 (view post)

My default was to look for a used Rebel T7i, but now I'm not so sure.

My only experience is with the Rebel line. Haven’t used it too often the past few years.

I'm using a Fuji mirrorless camera. I sold my Canon 7D and lenses and got a used FujiFilm X-E1 in 2015, when it was two years old, and I've been using it ever since. I chose it because it's really small and relatively inexpensive, and I could spend money on the lenses. Fuji has AMAZING lenses, but they're on average on the expensive side. Sony is the other major player, and all their mirrorless cameras and lenses are good, but Canon and the others have been catching up. It all depends on personal needs and local availability, really.
So, after another day of research I decided to go with a mirrorless. DSLRs are still great and I don't think either type can claim superiority. There are so many pros and cons to each that, like ETM said, it's mostly about needs and availability. For me, I cared a lot about continuous shooting, articulating LCD, and style (oh, vanity). I also wanted to fuck with an electric viewfinder. I have once or twice before and liked it. Ended up going with an Olympia OM-D EM-10 Mark II because it ticked all the boxes. More importantly, the Mark IV was released last week, so B&H had the Mark IIIs and IIs on deep discount. I'm super excited to start shooting with it, especially video. I can only imagine how far image stabilization has come in the last decade.

You can't possibly be disappointed when compared to DSLRs. To beat even the entry level mirrorless camera in day to day usage you really have to dig deep into your pockets and get some serious kit. Unless you need a heightened level of professional usability that the higher end DSLRs offer, it makes no sense to take the budget DSLR route today. Anyway, more than ever, the lenses really make or break your setup. For example, I have three lenses, and two of those have (excellent) stabilization so it wasn't a requirement in-body for me. Olympus has made it part of their business model to lead the field in the area. May it serve you well.
