I mean, I kinda doubt much of Ragnarok takes place on Earth anyway. Unless, you know, Banner finds his way back to it somewhere within its runtime.

Last 11 things I really enjoyed:
Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
Diva (Beineix, 1981)
Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)
Apparently Ragnarok is 90% set in the cosmos. Which is why Kat Dennings and Stellan Skarsgard are not in it, either.

Did not see this coming!

Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, & Mark Ruffalo join the cast of THOR: RAGNAROK, in Marvel's desperate attempt to fool people into thinking this movie won't suck ass.
https://marvel.com/news/movies/26203..._thor_ragnarok
Why would it suck ass, exactly?
The severed arm perfectly acquitted itself, because of the simplicity of its wishes and its total lack of doubt.
I guess when you're being offered MILLIONS for what will likely be one of the easiest sets to work on, nobody's going to pass.

Absolutely no reason. Irish is being extra irishy.Quoting Milky Joe (view post)
I enjoyed the first two Thors well enough, I'm sure this one will be fine, too.
- Marvel packed the cast with recognizable names, which is pure marketing. They're slapping names on the poster hoping it'll put more butts in seats, because the lead of this film is a movie star and nobody cares.Quoting Milky Joe (view post)
- The director is best known for television comedies. He's never done big budget. He's never done an action film. The closest he's come to science fiction or fantasy is a goofy, well received, docu-comedy about vampires.
- None of the three writers have feature film experience. Two of them spent the bulk of their careers writing cartoons. The third has no experience at all.
- Neither the director nor the writers have experience juggling this many cast members, or this many egos.
- Three of the main cast members from the first two films aren't returning for this one.
- It's rare that the third entry of anything is on par with the films that preceded it. The first two movies are some of the lowest rated, lowest grossing movies in the MCU.
I don't know if Ragnarok refers to the Norse myth or the comic book character, but either way this already feels like a huge clusterfuck, much like Cap 3.

Because that's what Marvel cares about. More butts in seats. People go to these movies because it's Marvel not because it's going to have Tessa Thompson or Karl Urban's name on a movie poster.Quoting Irish (view post)
So like the Russo Bros. or James Gunn? How did their films turn out?
Yeah, cartoons that feature Marvel heroes like that Thor guy or Hulk person.
See above comment.
Iron Man 3 and Captain America Civil War are the highest grossing films of their respective trilogies.
A huge clusterfuck that a majority of America saw and loved.

Sure why not?
STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (Rian Johnson) - 9
STRONGER (David Gordon Green) - 6
THE DISASTER ARTIST (James Franco) - 7
THE FLORIDA PROJECT (Sean Baker) - 9
LADY BIRD (Greta Gerwig) - 8
"Hitchcock is really bad at suspense."
- Stay Puft
...and so why will it suck ass, exactly?
kidding, but really, none of that stuff sounds that bad to me. Seems to me that Marvel is getting better and better at this. Last two Thor movies weren't anything special, but the apocalyptic premise of this + Hulk in Space makes this sound automatic to me.
EDIT: Wats nailed it

Waititi's latest prior to Thor is a successful crowd-pleasing action adventure film...
Iron Man 3 and Captain America 3 were the best of their respective franchises. I have hope that Thor 3 will deliver the goods, too.

Yeah, it's pretty awesome. I wish it got a wider release, though.

Put it this way, I didn't see Thor 2 in theaters. With THAT cast, I'm 100% going now.Quoting Irish (view post)
I seriously doubt Marvel is banking on people saying "oh shit! The new Cate Blanchett movie! MUST SEE!"
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
And Tessa Thompson??
Man, if there's one way to get my ass in a seat, it's including the girlfriend from Creed!
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
Karl Urban???
That guy from all those big franchises who is never the lead, and when he is the lead it's a guaranteed flop?
Oh shiiiiiiiit. Clearly Marvel has nothing to offer with this movie except AAA casting!
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
I just wish they had gotten someone other than some comedy director to do this.
If there's one thing Marvel films have shown us, it's that comedy directors are incapable of making well-received, well-reviewed box office smashes.
They really missed the boat on this one...
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
Yeah, Irish, all your "arguments" are pretty ridiculous. Besides, sorry, but for a superhero movie, the idea of Thor and Hulk in space seems a lot more interesting than the crazy antics of Stellan Skargard and Natalie Portman.
In four short posts, you've managed to be more obnoxious than Watashi. Congratulations, Meg.
Also, LOL --
I don't know what's more depressing --- that my observations here are totally commonplace and banal; that the reaction was another dogpile; that Match Cut is now completely in the tank for corporate IP; or that I've spent time and energy over the last five years arguing with you all.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
Probably that last one.
I hope Meg is joking on that last post about comedy directors. All four of those posts are tongue and cheek right? I mean, Whedon and Gunn are were comedy all day long.

I like this quote from Chris Rock about difficulties of directing comedy vs. drama.
Comedy is essential to tragedy. If it's humorless, you get Bats v Supes.
