Why didn't you ask the doctor "how heavy is too heavy?"??
Should have. He had woken me up and I was groggy. But they pretty much ruled out something being wrong with my heart, which was my biggest fear.

My only symptom is chest pain, which is both alarming and non-specific. I might have popped my chest wall somehow. The pain is worst when I lie down, so I have barely slept for a couple of days.

But I'm less emotional this afternoon. I feel like I can deal with this.

Did the rule out all muscular or skeletal problems? I've dislocated a rib before, and it was the 2nd worst pain I've ever felt. I could hardly do anything - including breathing, especially laughing and picking just about anything up - for months.

My GF has this thing where something pops in her chest, and then it's hard for her to breath and do strenuous activities. She goes to the chiropractor, gets adjusted, and it's good. Something is going on with her muscular or skeletal system. The doctors thought it was her heart and scared the shit out of her, and did all kinds of testes and didn't find a thing wrong. Sent her on her way. Only a chiropractor has been able to help her, and now, after a few adjustments, she's totally fine.

I am a child and I snickered at this.

Muscular/skeletal problem is certainly possible, and kind of my hope because then it will just heal up over time with rest. It's also possible something is going really wrong with my GI tract that is causing pain, but given the reactions I've had to the meds they gave me that seems unlikely.

There's also still a slight chance that it's my heart, and they want me to do a stress test with my PCP. We'll see.

Living in Baltimore practically everyone I know is in the health field somehow so I'm getting lots of unsolicited second opinions today. ("Hey, Laurie told my wife you're not feeling well so I thought I'd call to check up. Does it hurt when you lay on your side?")

Now that I've changed jobs I am in the unusual position where the parent company of the place where I work (university) also owns the hospital that I went to be treated, and also owns the insurance company I used to pay for treatment. So, I'm curious if that will make the insurance company easier to deal with, or if they'll still feel the need to jerk me around a little.

So there's a free screening of Mallrats with Kevin Smith in attendance for Q&A next week here in Brooklyn. Tickets are free and have been available to grab for almost 2 months now. It's still not sold out and Kevin Smith fans are BAFFLED that it did not sell out within seconds.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

If I were anywhere near Brooklyn, I'd go. They're hosting it on a rooftop & Jay & Silent Bob will be there. The movie may not be any great shakes, but that's pretty much guaranteed to be a good time.

I think that's mostly where the bafflement is. It's a free 20th anniversary celebration night with them and both Smith and Buzzfeed (the co-organizer of the event) have been tweeting about the event for two months and there's still only interest from Smith's most ardent fans.

In contrast, there was a 20th anniversary screening of Empire Records a couple of months back also in Williamsburg and tickets sold out online within minutes, and that cost $55.

Did the doctors check for Pleurisy? An inflammation of the membrane that surrounds the lungs. I had just the symptoms you're describing, Mara, and after pretty much every diagnostic tool on the planet was run on me, that's what they came up with.

The Empire Records thing strikes me as bizarre.

But then, Empire Records doesn't have the stink around itself that Smith's work does. Most of the core audience here came of age just as Smith began to tank his own career with stuff like Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Jersey Girl and Cop Out. I don't know who he's supposed to appeal to now.

For me, the draw is a live event, a raucous crowd (accompanied by booze and drugs), and the fact that Smith tells great stories when he's in front of a live crowd.

    And hey, free movie.

My breathing is totally fine (the nurse had me sing for her-- it is possible they were messing with me) so it is unlikely that my lungs are bad.

After living with this for a few days, getting to know my symptoms, and doing some research, I am 90% sure that I tore/injured a muscle in my chest wall. My first symptoms were Wednesday night, and I guess it's common for chest wall injuries to wait 1-2 days to start hurting. Well, Monday evening I hauled two 15-gallon tubs of water (around 120 lbs each) out to my garden because the water pipes were broken.

That's actually good news, because an injury hurts but you heal from it. (And also hopefully you learn that you are no longer 25 and can't haul around 120 lbs anymore.) It's certainly preferable than having one of my bodily systems malfunctioning. What really sucks is that chest wall injuries have a long recovery period (3-6 weeks) and sleeping hurts like hell (because lying on my back pulls the hurt muscles down and apart.)

I spend most of the mornings recovering from nighttime pain, but the rest of the day I'm pretty much okay, as long as I don't cough or exert myself. (Or SNEEZE, which holy hell hurts so much that I started crying yesterday.)

I am still going to see my PCP to verify that it's not a weird GI problem, but that seems unlikely at this point. So I'm not as scared as I was a few days ago.

That reminds me; UnREAL is supposed to be really good
Oh, ALSO, all that time in the hospital Friday gave me time to start this show, and now I'm caught up and it's pretty much awesome. Much, much darker than I expected a Lifetime show to be, but it balances its viciousness with a conscience.

It has convinced me that reality shows are evil, evil, evil.

lol after 2 months it finally sold out the day it's promoted on the front page of Reddit. I guess that answers your question.

I enjoyed the heck out of Oregon over the past few days. Hiked a trail that takes you behind a waterfall, toured the inside of a cave in candlelight, visited the beach of Newport, and saw Portland.

A heck of a lot of driving, but one of the better scenic drives I've done.

I haven't read the article, but the picture seems destined to become iconic.

I have the physical copy. The cover is definitely impactful to look at (especially the empty chair at the end), but there are individual photos of the women dressed in all white in the issue that are really haunting to flip through.

I read through some of the article online. Powerful stuff.

[Cosby] asked a modeling agent to connect him with young women who were new in town and “financially not doing well.”

The thing thats most shocking about the Cosby thing is if even 99% of it would be some highly improbable conspiracy and is not true, he's still one of the biggest scumbags ever. Every aspect of it is that fucked up.
