I'm reading the Arkham Knight feature in the latest Game Informer. This thing sounds like a fucking beast. No wonder they decided it's next-gen only. It's not that the open world is huge (they said they didn't even try to make it that big), but that it's super-dense. The game takes place during one night of full-scale city-wide riot engineered by a united front of villains like Two-Face and Penguin who can finally organize in the year since Joker's death without his crazy schemes fucking shit up for them, so you can turn a corner and have 50 henchmen on screen at once smashing up a street in various ways. They also got rid of cinematics entirely and all the story is being told in game play.

Seems also that Rocksteady put a lot of thought into the Batmobile and simplified the driving mechanics as much as they've simplified combat. It's an unstoppable car that can crash through or jump over most cars and barriers, ride on walls, and it can do 360 degree rotate in place even while parked so you can instantly face the direction you want to go. You can call it to come to you at will like a horse, and there's an ejector that will seamlessly put you in a glide whenever you don't feel like driving anymore. Basically they don't want you to frustratingly drive around corners or crash to a stop like in GTA. They want it to be Batman's way of getting somewhere in the city faster than gliding.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Hopefully since it's supposed to take place during one night, it's in real time, and only 8 or so hours long, and if you don't succeed in eliminating the threat in that time span, it's game over and you fail.

I think they got the idea for the Batmobile from Louis CK.

The internets response to this Oculus stuff has been hilarious. People acting like their lives have been destroyed.

Yeah I don't even understand what it means. Has everyone been using VR tech without my knowledge? Am I on the Truman Show?

My buddy is a little irked, and I understand where he's coming from.

He gave Oculus $150 on Kickstarter, and now they just made $2 Billion. Had that initial Kickstarter campaign failed, they probably wouldn't have made it. He helped them become super successful and super rich. At first he was helping out a small group of programmers.

This is one of the main problems I have with Kickstarter, and is why I don't use it. I won't donate money to a company or project, because when something like this happens you've basically just given away what could have been a smart investment.

He's not super upset or anything, he's just a little bummed that his donation went towards a thing that Facebook now owns.

Played all of fifteen minutes or so of Tomb Raider (free on PS+), and then shut it off. Not in the mood for a QTE heavy game. Perhaps I'll try a different free game this weekend, maybe Lone Survivor.

There aren't a ton of QTEs after the first hour or so.

Still some, but not nearly as many as I was fearing.

Agreed. You need a game that's only QTEs. Time to break out Heavy Rain.

I blew through Tomb Raider (XBONE "Definitive Edition") in a couple of days a few weeks back and absolutely loved it. Not super challenging, but a ton of fun. Better than any action movie I've seen in a while. Set pieces were thrilling, character moments were more interesting than most video games, and the graphics were just stunning.

So, I would say I'm about 12 hours in to Second Son, and I gotta say, it's an absolute blast. The same problems that the previous infamous games suffered from (camera, the parkour mechanics making it virtually impossible to just climb up a fucking ladder) but every other facet in the game is just a huge improvement from Infamous 2. To wit:

    • I'm digging the fuckup-has-to-grow-up -slash- disapproving older brother dynamic that exists between Delsin and Denny much more than the more cliched stoic and gruff Cole to the goofy irreverent Zeke combo from the first two. They essentially did a switcho-chango on the classic straight man funny man trope, and it works.
    • The smoke dash has quickly become the most fun and useful power in the entire franchise. Perfect for closing distance between an enemy, shimmying out of sticky situations, closing huge gaps, and, of course catapulting yourself high high high into the air.
    • Seattle is huge, and it's gorgeous. Looking like the playground is going to be comparable in size to Liberty City from GTA4. The look of the wet pavement, man. It's perfect. And the fall colors - it's enough to induce seasonal effective disorder, despite the fact that it's spring as I write this.
    • The super-death moves - my god, what a visual feast. I'm SO glad I did acid back in my 20s.
    • It's totally awesome when you come across some bald guy in a track suit sitting on a bench making techno shit on his mini keyboard, or some hairy guy in a kitshy dinner jacket with his head buried in a comic book, and then blasting their heads off with a fireball. Again, I am SO glad I did acid back in my 20s.
    • The antagonist. Oh my god. I want the antagonist to PAY. I betcha this person did not do acid back in his/her 20s.

I finished Second Son last night. Neon powers all the way. Once they are fully powered up you are unstoppable and they look the coolest.

So, looks like Batman: Arkham City is coming to PS+ in April. Just in time for when I'm finished fighting crime in Seattle!

Yeah, the rainbow dash is awesome when it's fully powered up. I had a great battle with three souped up DUP agents on the roof of a skyscraper. They were too tough to engage directly, so I just kept dashing up the side of the building, flying into the air when I reached the top, and coming down right in the middle of them with that radial super smash drop, then dashing off the building before they could retaliate, flying through the air to another buliding, dashing up it and using it as a springboard to catapult back to the skyscraper where the bad guys were, then super smashing them all over the place, leaving those neon trails behind me the whole while. It was so sweet.

Probably not. You know me. Eagle Scout all the way. I just don't enjoy playing as bad-guys, except in games like GTA, where, basically everyone in the world is an asshole and anything you do to them, they probably had coming to them anyway.

As someone who has finished the game the thought of replaying all those repetitive missions just so I can click the bad button at the end of them instead of the good does not sound like fun to me.

Cool, I'm not the only one.

That being said...the Infamous series is the ONLY series where I've played through twice, one on each side.

Someone's got to bring some balance to our rag tag group.

Your powers differ depending on whether you're good or evil. Good is about precision. Evil is about Blowin' Shit Up Real Good.
