I saw you playing it last night! I was as well. My opinion has changed: it's quite fun.
    Sweet!

I don't understand why I haven't unlocked any achievements on this game. It's strange.

I've been through over half of the single player game, and the co-op missions, and no points!

    I don't get it.

Stuntman Ignition: insanely fun and insanely hard. Kind of like Geometry Wars in that regard.

Played the demo for N+ and it's a lot of fun.

Unfortunately I can't afford to get the full game right now, but I will eventually.

Also downloaded the demo for "Stranglehold" and it got old after about 10 minutes.

Yeah. I'd say they tweaked it for the better. More characters, more skills are always welcome, but the basic gameplay formula (with many other things) hasn't really really changed at all. It's prettier than ever, though, and some of the new characters are a blast.

Only played the demo, but I love that game. Got it for my brother for Christmas, but haven't been able to play with him yet.

    Yes.

Ike and Pit are the two best new characters.

    Pit's recovery move is inhuman.

Sweet. Last I heard, the rumor mill was thick with worries that online play wound up on the chopping block. Glad to hear that isn't the case.

I'm enjoying "Gears of War", but I feel like it's the type of game that will run out of new stuff pretty soon.

The whole "cover...shoot...cover...shoot " thing is already starting to get old, and I've only played for about 90 minutes total.

EDIT: Also, the graphics are mighty pretty, but talk about drab, dull environments...is the whole game like this? Ruined churches and stuff?

I definitely agree. The textures are super-crisp, but the environments fail to evoke a shred of wonder and emotional connection. There's a booklet that comes with the collector's edition that talks of "destroyed beauty" and whatnot, but all I could see was opportunities for taking cover. And perhaps I've missed this, was it explained in the beginning, but are the only survivors hulking soldiers? Yes, there were a few civilians, but not nearly enough for my taste. And those driving sequences were pretty unremarkable. Still, it was a fairly intense blast - control scheme as well as soundtrack are totally ace! - but I actually gave up when combating the final baddie on the train. Pretty bland design in places.

I agree with all of this. It is a fun game, but the environments are boring.

It is also way too long.

For what it has to offer, it should have been a solid 5-6 hours, tops. They should have gone for a more arcade-like experience, and encouraged multiple plays with the hopes of improving score and time. It's just way too long to be doing the same thing over and over. I think I got about 1/2 through it, and felt like I had had enough.

Just finished Act II of "Gears of War".

That whole night thing was pretty meh.

What a horridly blatant rip off of Pitch Black, as well. Hell, one of the characters even says "damn, it's pitch black out here".

I just finished a nine hour game of that up today - one via the space race with Gandhi.

600 more levels of N+ are on their way to the 360 in the near future.

As if this game could get any better.

I think I am almost finished "Gears of War".

I'm on Act 4. Just got past that siege on the house, where we escaped in the APC.

Like D said, the environments basically consist of places to take cover. I think it would be much more interesting (and challenging) if you had to find and/or make your own opportunities for cover, instead of having blocks and rubble placed conveniently around every area.

And the environments just aren't that interesting. Sure, the technical aspects are incredible - can't deny that. But artistically it's really lacking. Everything is just dark and dingy. Even though the locales change (a rainy forest at night, a glowing underground mine, a ruined city), they all look pretty much the same due to very little variety in colour or tone.

Anyways, I'm nitpicking. It's a fun game, but IMO it's not the "killer app" it was made out to be when it was first released. And from what I've seen of the sequel, we're getting more of the same - so I'll wait until the sequel is available used before I make a purchase.

My damn box to send in my 360 still hasn't arrived.

I got Marvel Trading Card Game for PSP...pretty fun if you like these types of games, which I do. Though since I'm the only one here with a PSP no one prolly cares.

Agreed, but some of the critical applause was unquestionably reserved for the multiplayer aspect and you, like me, probably haven't dabbled with that. Or have you Meg?

PS: It's weird saying Meg, because I've been reading the novel "MEG" the past bunch of weeks and damn! That's one fearsome predator.

HA! Awesome...you mean "MEG" by Steve Alten?

The sequel, "The Trench", is good as well.

That's actually where my name comes from. When I was about 12 I made my first Hotmail address and it was "megladon8". It wasn't until I read "MEG" about a year later that I realized it was misspelled.

But, the name stuck, and I use it for most stuff now.

And yes, I've played "Gears of War" multiplayer - co-op is fun, but the death match type stuff isn't too great.
