I have no problem with him saying that. Who is to say what would have happened?
It implies that the 9/11 victims died because they did not love their kids enough to Mark Wahlberg the terrorists.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

I've thought about what I would do in certain situations if I had been in them and that's all he said. Probably as a celebrity it wasn't the smartest thing to say but I still don't understand why people are so up in arms about what Mark Walberg says. I mean honestly who gives a shit.

I agree that the public evisceration has been pretty thorough.

I think Mara said it pretty well with her analogy about the rape victim.

In so many words, he called the victims on the planes cowards.

Anyone can say with hindsight "well I would have done this", but it's still inappropriate.

Mark Wahlberg's tough guy posturing, whether jocular or not, is at a high level of douchebaggery here.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

    "Rick...it's a flamethrower."

To be fair, though, it's classic survivor's guilt. It's pretty common to be obsessed with what you would or could've done when you escape unharmed from an incident that killed others by sheer blind luck. He just phrased it terribly.

Seth McFarlane was in the same situation and his outlook on it is much better.

He's pretty much considered the modern day Oscar Wilde.

Wasn't he in a situation where he missed his plane or got redirected or something, and that plane turned out to be one of the ones that hit the towers? Man, that would be tough to cope with. I would think about that every day for the rest of my life.

Yeah, he was hungover and missed the gate closing by 10 minutes. He's pretty cool with it. He said he didn't realize the plane that hit the towers was his until it was all over, so to him, it was just a flight he missed, like people do all the time. He doesn't think there's any significance to any of it. That's probably how I would've looked at it. I'm sure I've "dodged death" in this manner a dozen times walking to the grocery store without even knowing it.

Wahlberg's supposed to be on one of the other planes, but at the last minute he decided to change to an earlier flight.

I don't think Mara's analogy is comparable. And I guess our difference in opinion is that I don't find what he said to be "inappropriate". People throw that word around way to much and I guess I just don't let things bother me as much as most.

It didn't "bother" me either, I just thought it was pretty shitty, tactless thing to say.

A good method, no doubt, but it's no match for Mark Wahlberg's years of experience permanently blinding people and beating them unconscious with large sticks, all while hurling racial epithets.
I am impatient of all misery in others that is not mad. Thou should'st go mad, blacksmith; say, why dost thou not go mad? How can'st thou endure without being mad? Do the heavens yet hate thee, that thou can'st not go mad?

Damn. I don't know that I would put any signifigance to it either, but I would still probably wake up everyday and say 'damn'. Hell of a thing.
