I'm still very enthusiastic about this game, but I am finding it can be just a little too obtuse at times.
Stuff like what I asked a few posts ago, about wanting to use magic. So I need to get an item from a merchant, right? Went to the merchant in Undead Burg (the one down the stairs, after fighting two spear warriors) and he has no such thing.
But this is the only merchant I have found so far in the game.
The duck hunting is getting to be a little much.

I'm just dying again and again and again. Such a boring boss fight. I haven't got shitloads of ammo either. Playing on hard too.

Yeh I did what this guy did pretty much only I used a more powerful gun (Magnum). I also used my vision that can detect invisible people, I forget what it's called.
There are stashes of ammo below each statue as well, and a few of those laser guns if I remember correctly. The statues on the square blocks.
So I beat the Black Knight in the Undead Burg, but with my killing stroke, he also killed me.
I went back in hope that the sword he drops would be there with my souls and humanity, and it wasn't.
And of course, the Black Knights don't respawn, so it's not like I can even give it another shot and get the sword.
Goddamnit. That's unfair.

I've killed every single black knight thus far, 3 or 4, and didn't get a single one of their drops. They aren't 100%. Probably closer to 25%. That's what NG+ is for. I also didn't get the Boar Helmet for killing the armored boar - all three times I did it with different characters!
You have a better chance at getting the drops if you have more points of humanity.

Whereabouts is the chest in Firelink Shrine?

There are 4-5 hidden chests in FS. Go up the stairs, by where the fat cleric is. Then continue up the other set of stairs and you will see two holes, through cut outs in the wall (these will later create a handy shortcut). Drop down. In there are 4 chests. Then continue down the narrow path to another chest. From there you will drop down into the cemetery - and get ready to RUN up those stairs into the room with the flooded floor, because those skeletons will try to kill you.
You can also do suicide runs into the cemetery to pick up some nice items.
I try to think of the game being in three distinct phases:
1. play to harvest souls/humanity
2. play to gather items
3. play to progress through an area
Those three NEVER mix.
Yesterday was all about harvesting souls and humanity, helping people with bosses.
Tonight will be about progress as I explore Sen's Fortress.
Here is a hint:
Firelink Shrine is much bigger than you probably think it is. Both upwards, and downwards.
Absolutely hated the ending to Dead Island.

I also found that, with the Drake Sword, I can quite easily traverse the cemetery. The skeletons are easy now.
So I'm making some good exploration progress.

I'm having trouble in the Slime Furnace. I got the Crystal Halberd after beating the Dread Wyrm but it seems to have no effect on the Vanishing Troll.
Where can I find more Vehemence Flasks?

The Crystal Halberd is the drop you get for doing poorly on the Dread Wyrm. You need to cut off his tail first to reveal his true form, and then you would have received the Great Crystal Halberd of Dread, which, BTW, renders all Vanishing Trolls visible.
And there are no more Vehemence Flasks, d'uh! Didn't you talk to Wambly Von Shamblebrook in the Tranquil Lake?

Actually it's not a "next-gen" system because the technology supporting it is 20 years old.
I wish people would stop calling it "next gen". They're the current generation of systems. Next gen is PS4, WiiU and whatever the next X-Box will be called.
And Wii is as much a part of the current gen as the PS3. In fact you might even say Wii was ahead of the game, since PS3 and 360 were late to the party with motion sensor stuff.

Super successful night of Dark Souls. Explored Sen's Fortress and found the amazing Lightning Spear and the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring. This ring raises your chances of finding rare items to 300 (the most it can be). Went back to The Depths and farmed rats and slimes for humanity and upgrade stones, and ended up with 10 humanity and enough stones to upgrade all of my equipment. Sen's Fortress isn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. It's really fun, too. The traps are awesome.
