Fired up Dead Island last night and put a few hours in... yeah, I think me and this game are going to get along famously. Knocking zombies down with a broomstick and then stomping a mudhole through them while they make silly zombie noises? Oh hell yes.
I will definitely pick this up at some point. Sounds awesome.

    ****

    Last night on Dark Souls....

I started a new character last night - a thief. The complete opposite of my main. My thief is SUPER fast, and her attacks don't do much damage. However, I was able to kill Haval, the second mini-boss in the game without much effort. It took a long time to wear him down, but I was so fast he could never hit me. However, I can't imagine fighting one of the huge bosses that can one-hit kill you. It would take so dang long.

It is interesting thought. It got me thinking about DS speed runs. With enough raw skill, it is entirely possible to absolutely rip through this game. It's not something that I would ever try, but I'd love to watch someone do it.

With my main cleric I tried to fight the Hydra, and got totally worked. Don't understand this fight at all. And I lost 10 humanity and about 8,000 souls in the process.

Duke Nukem Forever is $10 on Steam. An 83% price reduction in 4 months is pretty impressive.

So, Scar txted me today to proclaim that, yes, Dead Island has a frying pan for a weapon.

Anyone who doesn't buy this game is suck.

Played Demon's Souls for 3 hours last night... made zero progress.
Yeah I've played like 6 hours so far and have only managed to get to the boss in 1-2, where I died almost immediately. It seems so hopeless.

Ha! Some jerk invaded me today in The Depths (that's what she said) and I totally worked him. Got some humanity and a spiked shield that deals poison damage out of it.

Meg, a little advice for Dark Souls....

Don't be afraid to seek out information from any source that you can. I think that's part of the game - to use the community for as many hints and as much help as you want. You can basically make the game harder or easier for yourself depending on how much information, and what kind of information you want to discover for yourself. For instance, the instruction manual doesn't even tell you how to jump (and it takes multiple button presses). Nor does it tell you much about humanity, the effects of kindling, etc. I thought that the game would have a huge manual since I knew it was so complex.

    Nope. Chuck Testa.

    It's 6 pages long.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

Metro 2033 was only $5 the other day on Steam so I got it - haven't had a chance to play it yet.

Well I hope so, different people have different tastes. I bought Fallout 3 a while back and tried playing it a few times and I can't get by the inane dialogue and awful first person shooting action. I have played RPG games in the past. I've been trying out the original F.E.A.R. but have run into some sound issues (guns are very quiet and my footsteps are loud as hell) - have to check it out again after updating drivers.

Good little conversation on the recent Giant Bombcast about Dark Souls. Brad is playing, and he said he doesn't feel like he's any good at the game because he relies on cheesing the hard enemies and learning to exploit the game. To which Vinnie replied, "That means you're good at Dark Souls."

In a game that will (often) single-hit kill you just for simply walking through a door the first time, it is up to the player to get even in any way possible.

Actually, my manual is 18 pages long, because it has French and Spanish translations.

    Eat that, D_Davis.

It's by no means an RPG, but if you played STALKER, you'll see many similarities. Mainly because some of the creative team left the development of STALKER to make Metro.

It's a very very linear game, but the atmosphere is tremendous. Goes with a great graphics engine, great voice acting and a pretty neat finale. Sorta short, between 6-8 hours if I remember correctly.

Well, mine is too; but I don't count languages other than English - the one true language.

Oh wait, I think I found an extra page.

Mine is still better, since it's longer.

I have Stalker - I have to give that another try as well. I found the controls and difficulty a bit tough.

OK so here's one last question about "Dark Souls"...

I am currently doing a second playthrough of "Gears of War 3", as well as playing "Red Dead Redemption".

Is "Dark Souls" a game where I should wait until I'm finished with these other two and am ready to only concentrate on it before I even start it?

It seems like it's the type of game that requires your undivided attention.

STALKER Call of Pripyit is the best one.

STALKER SoC has a lot of bugs, but I still love playing it.
STALKER Clear Sky has minor improvemnets over SoC, but uses the same basic map.

If you follow the story, you should play them in order.
