I just never know with you, Duke. You've been saying things that make no sense for a whole page, so honestly I wouldn't bat an eye if you did say something like that in earnest.
No one is denying that there are surface similarities between "Dead Island" and "Left 4 Dead" - but saying that "Dead Island" is a flat out rip off is just incorrect.
Honestly, you might as well say that "Mass Effect" is a rip off of "Gears of War". It's a third person, cover-based shooter involving space marines, and it involves levels like underground caverns and ruined cities.
Everything in every medium is influenced to some degree by what came before it. "Duke Nukem 3D" took cues from "Doom" and "Wolfenstein", and "Halo" took cues from "Duke Nukem 3D". Games today still take inspiration from games 20 years ago. That's just how it is.
To all of a sudden single out "Dead Island" for taking inspiration from another zombie game is just ridiculous, especially when they're such surface-level similarities.
And may I once again remind you that you are a big supporter of "Darksiders"? A game with pretty much nothing original about it AT ALL? But when someone brings this up, you have some vague response of "well, 'Darksiders' had so much fun taking from other games!"
And what, "Dead Space" didn't?
If you don't like something, that's fine, but at least have reasons that make sense. You can't say "'Darksiders' is great because it has fun borrowing from other games!'" then turn around and say "'Dead Space' and 'Dead Island' suck because they borrowed too much from other games!" If you have other reasons to not like them then state them, but that is NOT a valid reason.
I'm done with this discussion. Talk about going in circles, my god.

aw jeeze. got lots to respond to.
And 8, those games aren't FPSs. So I automatically didn't count them since that appeared to be the main argument here.

Ok, I'm letting out a nice load chuckle every time I have a runner zombie run at me, and with one well timed swing of my hammer, their head disappears.
So far, the only real similarities that I'm seeing w/ L4D is that there are zombies, and you have to survive.
Now, if I started out with a shotgun, full auto gun of some sort, and had to fight my way through wave after wave after wave of zombies, you might be on to something. This game definitely is set up for a single player game. L4D is not.

ICO / Shadow of the Colossus Collection for PS3 is $25 at Best Buy right now, at least online.
If you see it in the stores for $40, you can just have them adjust it at the customer service desk.

The physics of this new FIFA 12 are unreal. Corner kicks are pure mayhem.
Somehow a fantastic game just got better. I highly recommend to ANY video game fan. Although I wonder how the learning curve is for new players.

I don't know why you keep bringing this up when I've explained it... every single time. (lol @ vague response) Fine if you're just choosing to ignore my posts, but I'll explain it again. Darksiders isn't trying to be something new where as Dead Island is. In fact, their development team took pieces of the games they liked most and smooshed them all together to create the final product. They came out and said they were were fans of portal, so they made a portal gun. Hell you can figure out pretty easily the games they wanted to emulate. Devil May Cry, God of War, Zelda, Castlevania, Metroid...Quoting megladon8 (view post)
Dead Space, sure there's influences there. Obvious ones. I wish they would be more open with where they got their influences. I know they said they liked Alien, but they should really finish up the list instead of pretending like they came up with all these super awesome ideas and that's why their game was a hit. Remember, I beat Dead Space 4 times. And Dead Space 2 twice.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
My reasons do make sense. If you don't want to agree with them thats your hang up. I can see you're pretty fired up about it. As am I when I need to explain myself. If you want to play the 'everyone borrows from everyone' card that's cool, and I agree with it, I just wish people came out (like the developers of Darksiders did) and admitted to it... instead of taking all the credit.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
Also Dead Space 2 sucks because it dragged in the middle of the game. Not because of it's unoriginality like the first game. The best thing about Dead Space 2 was the final boss and last chapter. Epic.
Awesome.Quoting Morris Schæffer (view post)
So, what's the word on Rage?
It's a $60 PC game. Pass.Quoting Ezee E (view post)
But I will buy it when it comes down on steam. Its unlike anything Id has been apart of. But from what I've seen, it's a combination of Fallout and Quake. don't expect a fast paced game whatsoever. Lots of quests, lots of RPG like qualities in this "action shooter".
A half-endorsement by Duke sounds good enough to me. :lol:Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Have a couple days off coming up so I'm hoping to finish up with my first run-through of "Gears of War 3", and continue on with "Warhammer" and "Red Dead Redemption".
"Gears of War 3" i will most certainly play through multiple times. I beat number 2 on Insane difficulty, and the first one I beat on Insane up until the final boss, at which point it becomes impossible unless you have the torque bow (which I didn't) so I gave up.
I'd love to do what I did with the "Halo" franchise and beat all of them on the hardest difficulty.

The idea that what makes borrowing from past works acceptable is to publicly list all your influences is just stupid.
I'm pretty sure that like, 99% of all books, film music and video games should be considered "rip offs" by that logic.
But whatever, I really am done with thisretardedincredibly stupid conversation.
Is anyone going to be picking up "Rage" right away?
I doubt I'll be buying it first thing opening day, but I think I'll get it sometime soon.
