I'm thrilled about the public school my kindergartner goes to. And this from a guy who went to a private Catholic school K-9. Don't know about the rest of you guys, but we have some great public schools here in Minneapolis.

If I have a kid, I probably won't be able to afford a private school, and I likely won't have the time to do dedicated home schooling, so I guess the best I'll be able to do if I happen to live in a place with shitty public schools is supplement his/her education at home. I think that getting kids hooked on books at an early age is key, or at least it was for me.

    Agreed completely.

If I ever have a kid(s) they will read. I don't care if all they're interested in is comic books and sports magazines - as long as they're reading.

I feel like sports are most often a learned hobby, picked up by one's parents. I was uninterested in sports totally as a kid, and I think that was in part because my parents never watched them. As far as caring about what they read, I do care that my kid would read some books, but there are enough really interesting, fun books for kids that I'm sure that won't be a problem.

Apparently, Fells Point in Baltimore holds a huge festival every year, and it's two blocks from my house. I didn't know anything about it, but now I'm kind of excited.

Also, I guess the dock where they filmed Homicide is also two blocks from my house. I'm confused why they would film a television show on a dock, but whatever.

Lots of TV shows are filmed on docks. There are warehouses to convert and containers to use as shields.

Boardwalk Empire is filmed on a dock here in Brooklyn. They stack large containers to surround the set then drape a green screen over them to CGI the Atlantic City skyline.

Homicide used an old building by the water as their police precinct. It works pretty well.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

I think it would be pretty, but impractical. Hard to get in and out of, both for heavy television equipment, and fictional police cars.

After having three of those in a row, I threw in the towel last night and slept at 11 pm. like a proper citizen.

I misread this as "threw up in a towel." Which would have been pretty gross.

I used to be able to stay up all night in my misspent youth. Now I'm old and I get cranky with less than six hours of sleep.

Went with some friends to a minor-league MMA fight. Let's just say that out of 12 fights, there was one that was good the whole way through (they actually fought) and maybe twenty seconds of something to enjoy in the other fights.

Just can't get into MMA unless, you know, they actually brawl with each other.

The first fight was seriously three minutes of them just bouncing, waiting for the other person to strike first. They got booed heavily.

On top of that, 85% of guys that go to these events are douches. They all wear Affliction or TapOut shirts because they think they can do the same thing. The silliness that occurred in the parking lot afterwards topped it all off, because we must've gotten three or four sausagefested cars/SUVs demanding to be let in because they could potentially beat us up.

Just wondering why Will Ferrell hasn't starred in the MMA Spoof yet. It'd be so easy.

I'm pretty sure 80% of MMA fans have no appreciation for martial arts.

I hate that they call it Mixed Martial Arts. Just adds a douchey taint to the phrase "martial arts." They should just call it Ed Hardy Tapout Fighting or something.

As a random thought, I completely gutted my toilet innards and replaced them yesterday, with only some written instructions. The dang thing works now and everything, with no drips. I'm mildly impressed with myself, as that's probably the most complex maintenance job I've ever done without someone else showing me how to do it first.

I even know all the jargon now. A flapper ain't just a short skirted dancer.
