...was that too odd to share? I'm a very nice person most of the time, I promise. I just have a thing about strangers touching me.

A friend tried to talk me into a professional pedicure once. Did not turn out well. A couple years later we tried to get a massage. Awkward. I ended up offering the massuese money to please just stop.

And it's not a sexual thing. I don't feel violated. I just don't like it. When I'm in a romantic relationship with someone I like, I enjoy being touched. (In fact, my mother the therapist thinks it's not sexual based but safety based, like I feel threatened. She bases this on the fact that I have zones that bother me, touching-wise, more than others, and they're not my breasts, butt, etc. In fact, the absolute worst place I can be touched is on the back of my legs just above my knee. I full-on panic.)

The only instance where I can turn off the strangeness is at the doctor's office. I get prodded and poked and pay no attention. It's just different, for some reason.
    ...and the milk's in me.

You're not the first person I know who's like that, so I don't think it's odd, but I wouldn't blame someone if they actively avoid you because of it. Like that assistant of yours, he's probably that way with his other lady friends, that's why he keeps forgetting not to do it to you too. Eventually he'd figure it's best to avoid you altogether than to keep pissing you off.

Inversely, I actually know people who would hug every person she's introduced to, because she's just very nice and sweet, and would feel really hurt and offended when people don't want to.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

I like when women touch me, but not men.

One time I asked for a massage at this inn I was staying at, and the masseuse was male. Awkward as shit.

i hug alot, but i'm not offended when someone doesn't want to.

also, someone randomly putting their head in your lap when you don't have a romantic or even close relationship is really weird.

Also, it had become a custom among young people to greet with a kiss on the cheek in the 90s. I know my folks were weirded out a bit. I mean, guys and girls alike. It's still normal to an extent. I met a female friend, and artist, at a mall the other day, she was with her husband and child, and we greeted and I know I hesitated a bit with the kiss on the cheek, even though it's okay since we've been close friends at the Academy.

There was this one time at my old job, we were working all night on an important account, and a female colleague of mine (also a close friend from the Academy, a designer like me) was working on something, and I was standing behind her, giving her suggestions... and massaging her neck a bit, rubbing her temples, like I always did back in school etc. We were never romantically involved, it's just something I did without really thinking about it and she enjoyed it. Then I notice - a guy, one of the owners, was standing nearby and I thought he looked agitated. I later realized - he was interested in her, and thought I was too, because of the touchy stuff. They actually got together that night, and later married.

Back in high school, the girls I hung out with would do the light kiss on the lips as a greeting, to girls and guys alike. Only to good friends, though, not everyone. I remember thinking in 10-15 years, it would be the norm with everyone. I was obviously wrong.

I learned recently that "RSVP" literally means "Please Reply."

I've been using the term incorrectly for years.

I'm just French enough to be annoyed when someone says "Please R.S.V.P." or "R.S.V.P. Please." It already says please inside!

Same problem with "A.T.M. Machine." It stands for Automated Teller Machine... you don't need to say "machine" again.

Has anyone seen Norm McDonald's standup? He's coming to Denver next month.

Joan Rivers is here Friday. Always been curious about her standup.

I'm a pretty big spelling-and-grammar-and-usage nerd/nazi, but, for better or worse, "like" is part of modern colloquial English and that's ok.

My office was closed today. I'm actually getting a little stir crazy. Nothing's open, and the roads are really bad, so I haven't left the house in three days. Boo to that.

This extends to other phrases, too. One of the most common is "blah blah blah in close proximity to the blah."

"Proximity" already contains within it an idea of nearness. All you're saying is "close closeness," which is, like, silly.
