I guess I should have given more qualifiers.
In particular situations it can be quite a slap in the face. Similar to stuff like "You're exactly the type of guy I want to be with - you're smart, funny, handsome, sexy...I wish I could find a guy like you...just not you."
In the case of BuffaloWilder's situation, for her to agree to a date, then call and cancel at short notice saying "I just want to be friends" seems a little weird.

Ah for sure, that was a dick move on her part. Still I think "I just want to be friends" trumps "I find you physically repulsive, never make eye contact with me again".

Yay, just got my homebuyer's rebate check in the mail today. It only took them 15 weeks.
Half of it is going to bills but probably gonna to spent part of the other half towards a new car since both me and my wifes cars are getting pretty old. I bought my Kia new back in 2000 and it's been running strong but 130,000 miles later and it's getting on it's last legs. We're probably going to get a Nissan Cube.

This kinda-sorta happened to me a long while back - two years ago I asked a girl if she wanted to hang out with me the next Friday. She said yes but a few days later cancelled on me because something came up but said 'maybe some other time'. It was no stress to me, we even talked about what she had going on, hell even though she has a boyfriend now we still talk, and this past summer we even met up and saw Transformers 2.
