What's the over under on Chicago shootings this weekend?

Every time this shit happens, just remember that gun violence is still drastically down. This is not representative. This is not the herald of some "new America." This is anomaly. Mourn, but don't fear, and don't panic.

The problem is that America still leads the world in gun violence though.

Are you talking per capita or total instances?

The violent crime rate per capita in Chicago has been steadily decreasing for decades. I don't know what media's agenda is with its portrayal of crime in Chicago.

    http://www.city-data.com/crime/crime...-Illinois.html

    From 1999 to 2011
    Murder: down 30%
    Assaults: down 55%

I know someone who used to work for the Chicago Tribune. I believe that a few years ago, they got rid of their foreign correspondents (or something like that) and began to focus more on the the city - so that could explain the increase in local crime coverage.

The USA has neither the most raw gun deaths nor the highest per capita gun death rate. It has one of the highest of both among "developed" nations, but not among all nations.

Now the Obama administration is electing not to enforce the PPACA until 2015. A law which this administration vociferously and uncompromisingly campaigned for over the last four years. So much for Article II-Section III, I guess. This guy is just the worst.

Seems Melissa Bachman has enfuriated the world once more with her picture where she's standing next to a Lion that she shot.

What's really memorable is Ricky Gervais' twitter retort:

"Sport is fair. If hunting was a sport the animal would have a gun too. If it doesn't you can't call yourself a sportsman. Just a cunt."

George Zimmerman is back in jail for allegedly threatening his GF with a gun.

I honestly don't care about the hunter. Especially since someone like Zimmerman who got away with killing an unarmed kid is out there terrorizing people. Priorities.

Astoundingly, I'm capable of caring about both and eat a taco at the same time.

    Word, man.

If we lived in a perfect world, then I might be able to worry about one woman shooting down an animal for purposes other than eating. Still seems to me like a bit of a stretch.

What kind of taco are we talking about here? Soft-shell? Hard-shell? Carne asada? Pollo?

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?
