I remember in high school listening to the local classic rock morning show on the way to school and the DJs singing “hang down your head Ted Bundy, hang down your head and cry. Hang down your head, Ted Bundy, poor boy you’re gonna fry.”
I haven’t noticed that sort of revelry the day of a man’s execution since. Not even Osama or Saddam evoked such a sense of celebration.

I'm taking my son to NYC in May. Just got tickets to see Michael Stuhlbarg in Socrates (new play by Tim Blake Nelson) at the Public Theater. Pretty excited.

The last time I was in New York was September, 2004.
Just because...
The Fabelmans (Steven Spielberg, 2022) mild
Petite maman (Céline Sciamma, 2021) mild
The Banshees of Inisherin (Martin McDonagh, 2022) mild
The last book I read was...
The Complete Short Stories by Mark Twain
The (New) World
I was at a Yankees / Red Sox game on September 9, 2001.
I landed a sick kickflip down a tiny 3 set of steps at the base of the WTC around 1994. Skated by cops in front of the Empire State Building and they didn't even look at me. In small town Ohio at that time that got you roughed up or maybe arrested.
I had an organized trip with fellow exchange students in 2009 (I was hosted in Minnesota), where NYC was the last stop (before that we went to Philadelphia and Washington). Saw Rock of Ages in a Times Square theater.
Midnight Run (1988) - 9
The Smiling Lieutenant (1931) - 8.5
The Adventures of Robinhood (1938) - 8

Shin Godzilla (2016) - 7.5
Eh, isn't morbid interest in serial killers a staple of American culture anyway? There are so many pop artifacts surrounding Manson, I don't see why a Netflix film about Ted Bundy is any crazier.
No it's not. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that gained a ton of attention. The make believe stuff maybe e.g. The Devil's Rejects, Sling Blade etc
There’s a difference between morbid interest and people saying they want to bang a serial killer.Quoting Grouchy (view post)

I know a lady who married a guy who is in prison for at least twenty for killing someone. They met after he went to prison.

Every time Manson came up for parole, it made national news. Every time he did something kooky, like carving a swastika into his forehead or getting engaged, it made national news. There have been multiple TV shows around Manson recently ("Aquarius" on NBC). Quentin Tarantino is making a feature film about the Tate-LaBianca murders and releasing on the 50th anniversary of the event. AFAIK, Mary Harron's ("American Psycho") project about Manson is still in the works.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
The "make believe" stuff is often directly inspired by real life events. ("Psycho" and "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" with Ed Gein, for example.)
"Criminal Minds" is a cop show that focuses solely on serial killers and has been broadcast on network TV for 15 years. "Dexter" was another show about serial killers that lasted for 7 years.
There's an weird subculture around serial killers complete non-fiction books, novels, comics, and collectibles.
The United States definitely has a morbid fascination with them, but I'm not sure that's exclusive to us.
A couple of years ago BBC One produced "Rillington Place," starring Tim Roth and Samantha Morton, about the John Christie murders. Argentina produced "The Clan," about an artistocratic family of killers and based on a true story, that won the Silver Lion at Venice and was Argentina's official submission to the 88th Academy Awards. There's an entire subgenre called scandi-noir that often focuses on serial killers and originated in Norway.
I mention this because I love mysteries and crime fiction, watch a lot of it on TV, and these days every other offering is about (a) a serial killer or (b) a child abduction or (c) a combination of those first two.

But forget all that. Let's get to the important question.
Which #team is Scar on? We need to know!
Venom stans are fighting Ted Bundy stans for wanting to f*ck an IRL monster
