I fully believe (AND HOPE) that this is just one big inside joke from the NBA, since it's also come from Kyrie Irving and started with Ron Artest I think.
I know there is a science and true thought behind it through others... But just think it's a joke in the NBA circle.

I've often wondered why nobody really tried to break off and create niche twitter-like sites, instead of repeating the birdsite's model and going "general interest" over and over again.
Social networks are a bore and tiring, but this one interests me.
Once they open up for new members, I'll check it out. It just seems like a bigger twitter that goes chronological instead of whatever twitter does nowadays...
Which, by the way, I hate. I don't mind my favorite users getting sent to the top, but it's hard to just get it back to being in order again.
