1M total cases in the USA now w/ about 800k active cases. 50,000 deaths. We're soon to surpass the 10+ years of USA Vietnam War casualties in less than three months. One of my friends also noted that covid is now the 2nd biggest cause of death in the USA behind heart disease but above cancer. I'm curious to see what happens with the biz openings around the country. Pretty sure this is going to slam back hard in November / December if we don't have a vaccine by then.

Where did one of your friends get that data? Because last I heard on the news it was still only like... the 6th or 7th cause of death this year.
Is Heart Disease #1 in every other country too? Or Americans just fat fucks?
Think that may be the case for New York and Los Angeles, but not necessarily the rest of the country.
Well considering NY is by far the state with the largest covid mortality rate, yes. My friend got his info from sources in early April. Basically if you took a day in early April with high covid mortality and times it by 365, it would match cancer and heart disease. I think it has gone down since then and hopefully will continue to go down. Still might be in the top five killers in the USA 2020. Here's some clarity:Quoting Ezee E (view post)

I’m fairly certain that VP Pence has convinced himself that if he hasn’t yet caught any of Trump’s venereal diseases, then he has nothing to worry about with covid-19.

Pence doesn't believe in science so him not wearing a mask is totally on brand.

The public freakouts are working, I guess? Politicians getting nervous and now even California is talking about opening up in "days, not weeks."
But what I'm not hearing is "we have a test for everyone" and "you can be treated at no cost to you."
Seems to me that letting people out now without massive testing and contact tracing will just lead to a spike in new infections, and that will kill more people.
Somebody, please explain.
Yep. I fully expect infections to spike. I’m more worried about the second wave come fall.

Re-opening now is a horrible idea. My state never closed btw cause our governor sucks.

It's pretty simple.Quoting Irish (view post)
You see, if you're rich, you can buy a test and treatment quite easily.
If you aren't rich, you should've tried being rich instead of a lowlife commoner. It's 10000% the fault of the poor if they end up dying. It's also the fault of the poor if the country opens up too early. The poor are also to blame for the second wave when it comes. And swamp gases. Sunspots.
Don't forget - we're all in this together.
Except poor people. Because, like...yuck

I keep hearing that testing is going to become very accessible, but it's just words at this point. Although I have seen signs saying testing is available at various urgent care places...
Little to nothing about contact tracing. I can only imagine the pushback if you have to have something on your phone (which essentially exists anyway), but would actually notify you if you were in close contact with someone else who was a confirmed case.

I am absolutely not going back to the office once shelter-in-place is lifted here. Luckily my boss agrees. We can keep doing our work from home for a little while longer.

They are calling it Shelter in Place there?
Last I heard. May have been followed by a more formal quarantine order but s-i-p was the standard mantra for a while in the news in SC.

I work in an office with 80 people, with usually a dozen or so outside traveling sales visitors every day. Just not a good place to be until a vaccine is available and effective in my opinion... but its been discussed to give people the working environment option that they're most comfortable with in the future.

These news articles are weird to me because the cases that came in should be as a result of activity from 1-2 weeks ago, right?Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
It's not like the smell of popcorn infected people at the spot and they were Gwyneath Paltrow Contagion-level by the end of the movie.
