Yeah, it's weird that it's supposed to be a war epic with that runtime. But still, all of Nolan's movies could be shorter. And be written and directed by more talented people.
    Like Ron Howard.

I'm HOPING that Dunkirk is really just the full battle for like 90 minutes. Then I'd be fine with that runtime.

It's really not that surprising if you know what the movie is about. You guys might have the wrong idea of what this movie is. It's not a big epic battle. It's about the evacuation of stranded British soldiers after they got surrounded.

Nolan himself said it's not a war movie, because it's not depicting any combat. From what I've read of the screenplay being described, you don't even get to see any Germans in the movie. It's a ticking-clock suspense movie about soldiers trying to run away before the Germans can stop them.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

I usually don't respond to such posts as I feel it will just show what a dumb old twat I am whos out of touch with the modern day social media and its a reference to something I don't get and once I do its really funny but in asking I showed too much of my grey hair.

I mean, he'd be pressured to say this even if there were potatoes on-screen. You don't wanna blow the lid off the potato pot.

Don't put all your potatoes in a basket, or so they say.

I just can't muster interest for this.

I have little interest in war movies as it is, but this looks particularly drab and boring.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

    "Rick...it's a flamethrower."

Review embargo lifts monday, but social media has the first reactions.

And would you believe they're unanimously glowing?

One said the movie is akin to a silent pic, most seem to agree it is best seen on an IMAX screen. One said that you don't really grow attached to the characters (possibly reinforcing the more docu feel the trailers have revealed rather than a ratata men on a mission epic with stars that stand out like a sore thumb). Tom Hardy has about 10 lines. Which might be less than Schwarzenegger in The Terminator.

Reviews are out. This is scoring really high. 28 reviews, 9/10 average rating.

Not few are calling it Nolan's best.

Haha, apparently Nolan's masterpiece is the one that's his shortest, has almost none of his dialogue, and has a straightforward story based on a true event.

I expect a couple weeks of wildly ecstatic reviews followed by months (years?) of backlash mostly supported by arduous nitpicking.

I don't know, half of the video essays on YouTube are appraisals of his films. Depending on the circles you frequent, he's considered a god of cinema.

This is the problem right here though; YOU are the one automatically positing that any negative criticism is simply "backlash" (i.e., not genuine) and "nitpicking" thus instigating the silly conflict.
