I think they're waiting to reveal a GotG 2 until after they see the opening weekend numbers.
Also, there's rumors that Gunn will direct The Avengers 3.

Sure why not?
STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (Rian Johnson) - 9
STRONGER (David Gordon Green) - 6
THE DISASTER ARTIST (James Franco) - 7
THE FLORIDA PROJECT (Sean Baker) - 9
LADY BIRD (Greta Gerwig) - 8

Since when has Marvel been wary about if there movies would perform or not?
They have it planned out to 2019. They know what they're planning.
And if Gunn is directing Avengers 3, they must be quite pleased with Guardians.
Very early reviews for Guardians are out, and they're positive.

Ok that's it. Media blackout for me until August 1st.
Drew McWeeney liked a Marvel movie? Shocking! Just shocking.
I'm curious how this is gonna play. I have a nagging suspicion mainstream auds won't "get it" & will stay away (cf Scott Pilgrim).
I don't think it's going to pull Transformers or Avengers money, but I like to think (hope) that the Marvel brand is strong enough to draw enough crowds for a #1 opening weekend. I really want to see Gunn succeed.Quoting Irish (view post)
It looks like a fun movie so hopefully I'm wrong. The Marvel angle is interesting, esp. because this is an obscure property not tied to the other movies in obvious ways. I'm dying to see how people approach it.Quoting Spun Lepton (view post)
I'm betting on 60 million.
If Watchmen, a 3 hour rated R comic book movie with no star power, can open to 50 million in April, I think Guardians will be fine.

Yeah, Drew McWeeny likes almost everything. I kinda dislike Devin Faraci but I feel his opinions (positive for GotG) are more reliable. I'm waiting until some general critics that I trust more see it though.
Oh man. I have a feeling Arya is going to provide us with some cool news this weekend. We are getting close in this Marvel universe to start seeing a lot of diverging from the standard super hero stuff.
These teases are truly teasing!

Soooo... The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is now set for TBD 2018 instead of its original June 10th 2016 date, and Sinister Six will now be out November 11th 2016 (and is still being written by and directed by Drew Goddard, allowing his Daredevil departure to make even more sense).
I really hope, mainly for Goddard's, Garfield's, and the general treatment of the brand's sakes, that this all works out, because otherwise I really don't know what they're trying to do here. Peter Parker has to be a key part of Sinister Six's story, right? They can't just take four years off from the lead character of a franchise to focus on villains for a one-off in between.
Last 11 things I really enjoyed:
Speed Racer (Wachowski/Wachowski, 2008)
Safe (Haynes, 1995)
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (Parker, 1999)
Beastie Boys Story (Jonze, 2020)
Bad Trip (Sakurai, 2020)
What's Up Doc? (Bogdanovich, 1972)
Diva (Beineix, 1981)
Delicatessen (Caro/Jeunet, 1991)
The Hunger (Scott, 1983)
Pineapple Express (Green, 2008)
Chungking Express (Wong, 1994)
Let's face it, Fox, Sony and WB/DC don't have the allure that Marvel does. If any one of those movies comes out entertaining that will be OK with me, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend their strategy looks good and/or highly anticipated.
But back to Marvel for a second, RDJ basically just said he's open for an IM4 if the price is right.

I have a sneaking suspicion this is just a ruse to deflect suspicion that he is dying in Avengers 2.
IE - I think he dies in Avengers 2 and they don't want people knowing it so soon.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
That would be the best misdirection ever and now I'm convinced it's true. (Even though I'm 99.9% sure he's contractually obligated to make an appearance in Avengers 3)Quoting megladon8 (view post)
What is it with you and killing superheroes? They're not going to kill Tony Stark.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
Keeping RDJ is a problem, though, because he's already rich as hell & they can't really offer him more than they already have.
Not sure what you mean about the "what is it with you" comment...but I also don't know why you think they wouldn't kill him (unless it's just your usual pessimistic "MONEY MONEY MONEY! DISNEY/MARVEL CAN'T DO ANYTHING INTERESTING" attitude).Quoting Irish (view post)
Feige has already said that they plan on making the Avengers a rotating team, and the new characters like Ant Man and Doctor Strange are being brought in as the first two of the new team.
So it seems entirely possible that they plan to kill some if the current ones off and replace them.
Hell, the Winter Soldier storyline they did in Cap 2 is the first chapter of the death of Captain America, so that's probably on its way too.
Didn't you say once that Batman should have died at the end of DKR? I was teasing you based on that.
I don't think they'll kill Stark because of RDJ. He's a big part of the energy behind movies like The Avengers. That movie lives and breaths on his charisma (and Ruffalo's too). The rest of the crew are either weaker performers (Chris Hemsworth) or are straight jacketed by their characters (Chris Evans).
Killing a major character is a risky move. Any way you handle that, you'll alienate fans. I know you don't want to hear it, but $200MM movies don't take risks. It's a high dramatic price to pay for little return. (Because it also means RDJ wouldn't be able to return in any form for fun little cameos, etc). They'll more likely rotate Thor out (because his movies don't do so well domestically) over killing Stark.
What are you basing this hunch on? Just because?
Have you read comics? People die and come back all the time. There's absolutely no reason why he couldn't die and then still appear in later entries, whether they be flashbacks, prequel stories, or a straight up resurrection,
They can't make Iron Man movies forever, and I see no reason why they wouldn't kill him to end his story. Like I noted above, Feige has already said that the current Avengers line up will not always be the Avengers line up, and I doubt they plan on an Avengers Retirement Home film.
A third 2018 date was just confirmed.Quoting number8 (view post)

Rumor: Joaquin Phoenix asked to play Dr Strange.
I want the whole picture now. Is that Jarvis in the background?
