This is very cool. Nice knob-work.

Can you identify all the synths? ('cause I can't -- they sound familiar, tho...)

    Where in Seattle is this?
"We eventually managed to find them near Biskupin, where demonstrations of prehistoric farming are organized. These oxen couldn't be transported to anywhere else, so we had to built the entire studio around them. A scene that lasted twenty-something seconds took us a year and a half to prepare."

Those are all MFB synths - a little German company.

Been listening to this lately and it's really fantastic. Lush and densely atmospheric, but just unsettling enough that it never quite sinks into the background. I hope this Daniel J Davis fellow comes out with more stuff soon!

Pole is great. Dub ambient/techno at its finest.

So that Arctic Sleep album is basically the best parts of Hum, Isis and Cave-In mixed together. Astonishingly good.

Ooooo. I need to listen to this. I'll try to have a reaction to this in the coming days.

Ok, I've driven around town with the Arctic Sleep album, and given it some plays while reading as well. The drum tone that the engineers achieved is phenomenal, and a lot of the lighter portions are similarly impressive. In some of the heavier portions I can hear a Pelican and Cave In influence. There are a few sections where the riffing is almost too anonymous and not textured enough to escape a pedestrian feel, but those moments are thankfully scarce throughout the album.

Of the influences you listed, I hear Hum most heavily in the vocal pitch and lyrical structure. And that's definitely a good thing since I continue to be more and more impressed with the Downward is Heavenward album, and am now basically regarding it as a lost classic. Some of the longer tracks have a post-rock feel to them, and I think "Black Moth," "Valley of Poison," and "Release the River" are the strongest overall cuts early on; they explore the most varied musical structures and build quite effectively. I'm intrigued to return to some of the more ambient fare here...

They could most definitely work on their riffing.

Just bought this for Katy Song, but was bowled over by this one:

    The Boat People - 9
The Power of the Dog - 7.5
The King of Pigs - 7

    Mistress is amazing.

Saw RHP do a 20+ minute version during the Three Hour Tour (but they really played for closer to 4 hours). Mind blowing.
