Swell Maps (band) - Jane from Occupied Europe (album)

    Good stuff. Proto-post-punk. I guess.
Did you listen to that TTs song above?

    I think you'd like.

LOL. I think he'd fit more in with my Twin Cam Akiko or Z Phantom 4 persona. Also, I think he's dead.

Second one's a lot better than the first one, which might as well be a Tim & Eric sketch. Still, outsider music = thumbs up.
I like the first one. It's pretty much exactly what David Lynch would be doing if never got famous. I love how sincere and earnest it all is.

They're fine, nothing offensive, but basically a textbook example of a middling 90's indie band that's been understandably shrugged-off in recent years. See also; Grandaddy, Clinic.
The Sophtware Slump is still a great album. Clinic were a pretty interesting band too, but I admit I don't listen to them a lot anymore. Plus, if you don't think half of the new shit you listen to is going to be shrugged off by future generations, I dunno what to tell you. Other than you are probably young and naive.
Ratings on a 1-10 scale for your pleasure:

    Top Gun: Maverick - 8
    Top Gun - 7
    McCabe & Mrs. Miller - 8
Crimes of the Future - 8
    Videodrome - 9
    Valley Girl - 8
    Summer of '42 - 7
In the Line of Fire - 8
    Passenger 57 - 7
Everything Everywhere All at Once - 6

Some are more shrug-off-able than others, silly.

Nice! I assumed they broke up since it's been so long since their last album. Looks like they're a duo now and changed their name to Standish/Carlyon. Hopefully they'll have some heavier tracks as well, but that one's a good slow burner.

Are you familiar with HTRK? Standish is married to Joneine of that band, who specialise in Swans/MBV-ish slowburners... I'm guessing they influence each other musically and whatnot.

"We eventually managed to find them near Biskupin, where demonstrations of prehistoric farming are organized. These oxen couldn't be transported to anywhere else, so we had to built the entire studio around them. A scene that lasted twenty-something seconds took us a year and a half to prepare."

Just ordered this and Different Colours. Really looking forward to writing to these two... the crescendo here remains haunting months after first hearing it. Just a masterwork in structure and design.

The King of Pigs - 7
