I think the main difference is that when an ending sucks, most of us would still overall like the movie
If this were true, then M Night Shyamalan would still have a career.

The ME3 problem is twofold :

    - Nobody plays Bioware games for the combat mechanics, gameplay, or graphics. With ME3, Bioware fucked up something they are renowned for.

    - It's about EA. Between this, DA2, and SWTOR, longstanding fans are picking up on the degradation of a favorite developer.

From what I've played, I actually prefer DA2 to DA:O. The narrative framing and unreliable narrator of DA2 are actually kind of interesting.

Mass Effect 1/2, and KOTOR had the smoothest RPG play I've come across. The dialog branches were completely unique, loved the variation that the character could take, and the force powers/bionics made it a lot of fun.

The third, while still having a good story, was very simplistic in its approach. Its the same comments I made before. All the missions are run and gun. No moments where a wrong dialog branch could ruin something. No stealth or ramifications... The storyline is there, but it seems like it's all about what Shepherd does anyway, no matter the size of the army you recruit. Just disappointing.

What are the big decisions you make in 3 anyway? I'm guessing...

What game should I look forward to now?

Will keep on playing FIFA 12 for now I guess. Maybe I'll restart a Career mode with Match Cutters and get my way into the Champions League.

If I had some money I would get FIFA 12 and play with you. Also SSX.

    Only select fans, though.

Honestly I know more people who love "Dragon Age 2" and "The Old Republic" than I do who don't.

Most people I know who are hardcore "WoW" players have completely abandoned it for "The Old Republic".

And as for the "ME3" ending, same thing - I know just as many people who were completely satisfied with how it ended.

Like 8 said, the hardcore gamer types who hated these things are often belligerent assholes who try to piss in everyone else's cornflakes.

That the "fans" had the balls to even try calling out BioWare and saying "hey you fucks we didn't like the 'Mass Effect 3' ending so you're all goat-raping shit eaters and you better change it" is just appalling.

That "the fans" even entertained the idea that somehow their disappointment about the game not ending exactly how they wanted it is something worthy of this kind of attention is just so, so narcissistic and totally indicative of the overall mentality of many hardcore gamers that boils down to "ME ME ME, I'm important, you're not, I'm right and your wrong, I rock and fuck you."

As someone in the Random Thoughts thread pointed out, it's sickening that these people speak and act in such a hateful, racist, sexist, misogynistic, and generally dick-ish manner but whenever they're called out on it they claim "humor".

Add to their constantly hostile and offensive behaviour the fact that they can rarely (if ever) handle the idea of someone thinking or feeling differently than they do (which almost inevitably leads to the aforementioned hostile, offensive behaviour) and they really are a revolting group.

Should be relatively cheap now. And they're adding the Euro Cup next month. Even if you're not a soccer fan, I think people would get into it. The strategy, physics, online modes, career mode are all so well done that it's by far the best sport series out there. Plus, a game is relatively quick. Like 15 mins. Try and do that in Madden, NBA, NHL, or MLB.

This has been a trend with them for awhile now. It started around the time they release Jade Empire.

While they used to be great at hiding the absolute linearity of their games, now it feels like they put no effort into it at all.

That says a lot more about the current state of WoW than anything about SWTOR.

    Also, anecdotal is anecdotal.

Well people are spending just as much time with "The Old Republic" as they did with "Wow" (as in, ungodly amounts of time). So that must say SOMETHING about BioWare's game.

"WoW" fans are fiercely loyal. That many have completely ditched it for something else says a lot, actually. I'm not saying you're incorrect, just saying that you can't dismiss "The Old Republic"'s success completely.

    Also, anecdotal is anecdotal.
Errr...do you mean "anecdote is anecdotal"? In which case...um...okay?

Not as much as you'd think, because that's the nature of MMOs.

WoW players are loyal to each other and to the commuties they created, not necessarily to the game. Blizzard either didn't realized this, or forgot it, and introduced a series of in-game mechanics which undercut the community in a significant way. That's why people left. It wasn't because of SWTOR (which people would have played anyway). It also didn't help that Cata sucked ass.

SWTOR isn't a success yet. 2MM box sales are just as easily attributable to the strength of the Star Wars and Bioware brands combined.

Given what the game is, I expect it to hover around 1MM subs over the next year. Which will make it profitable, but not the success it really should have been.

Errr...do you mean "anecdote is anecdotal"? In which case...um...okay?
No, I meant anecdotal is anecdotal. The implication being that your friends' behavior is meaningless in a broader context.

Why? He still had a career after Unbreakable and Signs. People only started actively hating him beyond making fun of his twist endings when he started sucking from start to finish, like with The Happening and Airbender.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

I also realize the ridiculousness of saying someone has no career when his next movie is a big budget sci-fi epic starring the most bankable Hollywood star on the planet.

What are you, some kind of Shayamalan apologist? The Vilage came out in 2004.

But the point was: he squandered away his audience with a series of bad endings. Your assertion is off the mark. Most people think: bad ending, bad movie.

Mass Effect's abrupt closure casts a shadow over the entire series.

Are you new to Match Cut? There are quite a few Shyamalan apologists here. Sven's probably the biggest champion of him here.

Also, The Village is a good movie.
    Sure why not?

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (Rian Johnson) - 9
STRONGER (David Gordon Green) - 6
THE DISASTER ARTIST (James Franco) - 7
THE FLORIDA PROJECT (Sean Baker) - 9
LADY BIRD (Greta Gerwig) - 8

I thought I was for awhile, until Sven told me that he kind of liked The Happening.

Shyamalan is still one of my favorite directors. I loved The Village (one of my 50 favorite films), The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. I really liked The Happening, Lady in the Water and Signs. I have not seen The Last Airbender.

Word has it that you're either a Goldeneye fanboy or never actually played Goldeneye.

I played a shitload of Goldeneye, and thought it was great...until PD came out. That was like WOAH. The PD multiplayer is a level of customization and perfection I've yet to see duplicated since. It has everything I want in a multiplayer. Playing against one other human when you both have teams of bots...epic. Just epic.

Since I finished ME3 I decided to get caught up on Assassin's Creed before III so I started Brotherhood and am a couple hours in and so far so good. I loved the first two games and I'm already hooked in to this one. Smart move putting the recap at the beginning of the game of what happened in the first two.

I also played through the first two worlds of the weird Japanese Kinect game Diabolical Pitch. Really fun stuff but incredibly tiring for your arm.

New details emerging for "Halo 4", including the multiplayer package titled "Infinity".

Apparently the multiplayer will have direct connections (storywise) to the campign. I'm really interested in seeing how this pans out.

There will also be separate 4-player co-op missions which also connect to the campaign and tell their own little story.

    Can't freakin' wait.

They've already revealed how all of this ties together, narratively. It sounds pretty cool.

I don't know if you would consider this a spoiler so I'll hide it but anyways:

Ah, no I hadn't read that. I read about the multiplayer being the VR training for the Spartans (red vs. blue) but not about the co-op missions or the actual story tie-in.

    That's uber cool.

This game is gonna rock my socks off.

The cool thing about Spartan Ops is that there's going to be a new mission each week or something like that. They haven't revealed all the details on how this is going to work yet but I guess it's their solution to adding value post-release ala DLC, where it's like having a television series about the Spartan IVs and we tune in each week for another episode.

FYI. AC3 has no relationship to Brotherhood or Revelations. It's a direct sequel to AC2.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?
