Well, I wasn't meaning to be a douche, but if you want to take it that way, I have no ability to stop you. It's not like I'm wishing for or laughing at your misfortune.

Hey, Dukefrukem, you may not read this since you have me on ignore or whatever, but I'm sorry for making you feel like I had it in for you in the past; I know that I haven't always been the paragon of tolerance to people and, more particularly, posts that I find grating. Especially in regards to you, Skitch, meg, and MadMan, whom I've all made feel targeted, pointedly harassed, and maybe even bullied. I never set out to pick on people, really, I don't think, but just responded to posts the way I reacted to them, but I wish now that I'd gone a little easier, and gotten less involved, and cracked fewer jokes.
And there's nothing wrong with that, but people are going to react likewise. I am very uncomfortable with you editing yourself to a certain degree. Its the internet, it was invented to bitch about stuff and anonymously call people fucktards. That being said, we all know there is a difference between internet ball busting and trolling (not saying you are a troll, sir. At all.)

Including me, ultimately. I'm trying to be better...
That takes a real man to say.

    ...and often failing.
    Completely disagree.

Most of that behavior is years in the past at this point, but that doesn't mean its effects aren't present with us now.
From my own journey on the interwebs, I try not to hold grudges online. The internet is a strange new community, with a wildly different communication tool-set than other mediums. My first few years of interweb interactions are horribly embarrassing. I know that sounds condescending, I truly, TRULY don't mean it so. I mean anything you may have posted you regret, I've posted ten things worse.

Curiously, in the mean time, I've found Match Cut to become an almost unbearably hostile and unpleasant place...
Really?! That is unfortunate. We may be stern, but I think we're fair. I think of it as the anti-IMDB.

...I'll strive not to disagree publicly with you anymore either.
I don't like that at all. I think there are many avenues for disagreeing with people that perfectly acceptable. I really hate censorship, even self-imposed. I understand what you are saying, sir, I just think there is a happy medium.

You are good people, Sycophant. Each one of us can unload some stress on the wrong people, or judge the people around us with an unfair level of contempt for simple disagreements. I think it's big of you to recognize this as a fault and work to improve, and I would sure hate to see something like this chase you away from the site again. I know I'm not alone in feeling that way.

Dammit! I was too busy collecting Riddler trophies to catch the drama in here.

Anyway, I always do a double-take when things get heated in here, because Match Cut is always so damned pleasant and peaceable. I almost never see things go beyond cheerful chiding or heated debate, and even those almost always end well.

Just a way of saying that I think you all rule. Even Madman.

I echo DaMU's sentiments. This is probably one of the most civil places on the Internet, and I don't like seeing people get worked up. Especially around this time of year. Think of the children.

  7. #31282
Show me another forum this civil with equivalent activity, intelligent conversation and less moderation, and I'll show you a freaking unicorn. This place is the exception to the rule of public internet discourse.

    Happy holidays, Match-Cut!

Gotta agree with DavidSeven, well said. I've been on many forums throughout my internet life and all of them after going through a period of about nine months where it is at it's height of posting and content it'll fizzle out and become non-existent. Or other forums which will burn out because it becomes one gigantic fight. But this one though having fights here and there has stayed consistent and is the only forum I go to with any frequency anymore. Sometimes I'll do like Mara did and have a moment where I think, I'll branch out to another forum and then like Mara said it's just weird and I'll realize my mistake.

I visited Sven back in August and when we talked Match-Cut I was surprised when we did talk about arguments because there were people he's had somewhat consistent arguments with that I never have and there were people who I have consistent arguments with that he never had. But I do think that's one of the things that goes along with being in a community overall, like when you look back through groups of friends that you've had and there's that one guy in the group that you've never really connected with but everyone else seems to love and then you find out that two of the people you love apparently have never gotten along. Sycophant is one of my best friends in real life and so then this hooplah goes down and I find out him and duke have been going to town and I'm surprised cause I love that guy and want to hang out with him the next time I go back to Boston.

But yeah, anyways, I'm just saying it's all fascinating to me, I don't really have any fix for it, I just like the community overall even when I have disagreements with certain people.

Also, every year I decide Noelle is a beautiful girl's name, but then after the holiday I change my mind.

    I think about these things.

EDIT: Especially if you kept the dieresis, like Noëlle. I always wanted a name with an unusual glyph.

That's also a fantastic name for a cat. So is Crispin for that matter, but more because of this than anything else.

He's the villain, and his name is Aloysius Cobb. Tell me that's not awesome. You can't.

I blame his fictional parents. You don't name your child Aloysius Cobb unless you want him to grow up to be crafty and evil.

Is the villain a wooly mammoth who names his trunk "Vera"?

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

I read this and I was so afraid some pop culture jerk had appropriated my totally awesome made-up name.

HEY! NONE OF YOU STEAL MY AWESOME NAME!

    I better finish that quick.

I did, but it took me a few panicked moments.

Also, I did not realize A. Snuffleupagus was supposed to be a woolly mammoth. He doesn't look like a wooly mammoth.

And, looking at his wikipedia article, I totally remember the episode where the humans found out that he wasn't imaginary. I was six, and it was kind of a huge deal.

I also remember when Mr. Hooper died, although I was apparently only four.

The only time I had to abide by a dress code was when I worked at a movie theater. The shirt varied and changed quite a bit, but you were expected to wear black dress paints, black shoes, and black socks. The only time I hated the shirt was when it advertised Fame and that stupid G-Force movie.
Me too, it was also the only time, and in a movie theater. Also black shoes, black socks, black dress or trousers, but orange shirt (nothing written on it though).

One of the best things about coming home is being able to play on the piano I learned on. Yes, it's old. Yeah, it's out of tune. Yep, a couple of those black keys are broken off. Despite all of this, it plays more naturally to me than any other piano in the world.

    Merry Christmas, Match-Cut...
