Wait, not all PS3's are backwards compatible?
Wait, not all PS3's are backwards compatible?
Nope. You have to find a working launch one, which is becoming harder and harder to do.Quoting Lucky (view post)
None of them are anymore. You'd have to find one of the original 5 year old models.Quoting Lucky (view post)
Backwards compatibility was one of the reasons for the PS3's launch price. Once they took out the two computer chips that allowed the machine to read PS2 discs in the newer models, they were able to drop down about $100 in price.

No backwards compatibility also means Sony can sell downloadable versions of PS1 and PS2 games through their online network. Win-win for Sony.

All models can still play PS1 games, actually. It's only PS2 games that needed those special chips.
Speaking of which, I've been meaning to buy Parappa the Rapper again. brbebay.

Yup. The main reason why they stopped making BC models. Plus you can download them all in HD anyway so BC is pretty much dead to me at this point. I don't mind spending $4.99 for a PS1 title. God of War was remade in HD along with Splinter Cell, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider... the reasons for using BC models as an argument is quickly fading.Quoting Spun Lepton (view post)
The graphics in that trailer are exceptionally better than GTAIV. It's going to sell hard.
So the rumors were true. They basically just took the map from LA Noire and made it San Andreas. I'm kinda disappointed, Rockstar.

Anyone else have "Darksiders 2" near the top of their Most Anticipated Titles list?
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
Yes.
edit: Now that Uncharted is out, my next games will be:
1. MGS HD Collection
2. Twisted Metal
3. Final Fantasy XIII-2 (still have hope)
4. Darksiders II
5. the Darkness II
I never really gave my thoughts on Uncharted 3. It's epic as most people would expect. The set pieces are insane. I love how they are traveling to different parts of the world and taking advantage of the lush landscapes. There’s even a lot of night gameplay which is a change of pace from the previous two titles. The gameplay might be a step back from the first two games. It feels a bit clunkier because they’ve added in a new fighting mechanic and the ability to counter enemy punches and using the environment around you to your advantage. Example would be smashing someone’s face against a wall, table or <insert object here>. IT’s neat, but it draws away from the gun play. Exceptionally great story telling this time around. The previous two installments were deeply involved, but this one has plenty of back-story which makes you love Drake and Sully more. I made it to chapter 8 last night after buying my new PS3 and I hear there’s 26 chapters again like UC2.
Well, as informed, inbetween bouts of Dark Souls, I booted up Assassin's Creed 2. As predicted, initial impressions are favorable. I chose Italian language for that really authentic feeling. Looks like one helluva setting.
However, I'm a little uncertain concerning the setup. Am I really Desmond, but playing as Ezio in a virtual reality, Matrix-like environment?
Is there something from the first Assassin's Creed that I need to know? Was Desmond also a character in that game? The name Altair did crop so please spoil me if you can.

Yeah, it's a virtual reality and they're all part of the same lineage. AC is one of the few game franchises where the stories are direct continuations of each other. The Desmond parts of AC2 actually starts exactly where we left him at the end of AC.

But the plot isn't very good so it doesn't matter that you haven't played the first. Awesome games regardlesss.Quoting number8 (view post)
Anyone else think the narrator in the GTA V trailer sounds like Ray Liotta? Is the protag an aging Tommy Vercetti?
EDIT: Apparently not. Hmmm.
Movie Theater DiaryQuoting Donald Glover
I don't really care about this, but I still want to correct you. Maybe 1% of all PS1 and PS2 games I'm interested in are available for download on PSN, and only a small handful of games have actually been modified in any way to be really HD. And you buy those on discs for $40+.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
If it's just GTA IV but in a different city (how I feel about the GTA III sequels) then I won't even bother.
That's the point, wasn't it? They named GTA IV the fourth version instead of the sixth because even Rockstar considered Vice City and San Andreas to be glorified expansion packs. IV was the one that was actually a change in gameplay. Since they're calling this one V, I'm hoping that they actually made the same leap.Quoting Ezee E (view post)

Having not watched the trailer yet, was there anything indicative of this leap?Quoting number8 (view post)
It's just random pre-rendered shots of the location and no gameplay, so no.Quoting Ezee E (view post)

Not sure yet. They specifically show several instances of extreme detail. A house going up for sale, a wind farm, people jogging, jet skiing, hiking, golfing, doing yoga, what looks like a robbery, hookers, a homeless guy and other LA like view points… a knockoff of the HOLLYWOOD sign, convertibles, people working out in an outside gym, oil farm, a high speed chance and helicopters, planes and jets.Quoting Ezee E (view post)
Beginning to feel like Robert Langdon now in Assassin's Creed 2.Decrypting mythical paintings, finding similarities. Pretty cool. Amazed too just how difficult it must be to ensure every single building has grapple points onto which Ezio can climb. Feel like Batman at times. Perched high atop the rooftops, waiting to strike.
I gotta be honest Winston, at this moment, I feel the story is going interesting places.
