or, you know, the origin of the avengers from the comic

i wish that antman was in this though. but i guess since he's supposedly getting his own film, they'd rather wait to cast him for that and have him in the avengers sequel

Look at the cast for Inception - Leo DiCaprio (big star), Joseph Gordon Levitt (somewhat known), Ellen Page (not a big star, but people know her from Juno), Michael Caine (a star, but not a moneydraw or anything), Cillian Murphy (most people don't even know how to pronounce his name), Tom Hardy (relative unknown), Ken Watanabe (again, relative unknown who people will recognize as "that Japanese guy from The Last Samurai / Batman Begins!".
    Erm... Cotillard? Oscar?

You're right, I completely forgot Cotillard.

The scope of this certainly doesn't seem to be aiming for an ambitious plot. I see it just being a Marvel movie that happens to have all these characters in it, leading to a ridiculous box office.

    And I'll certainly participate.

They've already announced Thor sequels and Avenger sequels, Nick Fury and Black Widow spin-offs.

It's not going to climax at The Avengers.
    Sure why not?

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (Rian Johnson) - 9
STRONGER (David Gordon Green) - 6
THE DISASTER ARTIST (James Franco) - 7
THE FLORIDA PROJECT (Sean Baker) - 9
LADY BIRD (Greta Gerwig) - 8

Can it fail, though? Honestly? The ambitious part isn't the stars they brought on. The ambitious part is that they're trying to make each character a household name first, and simultaneously make them cross over to each other's movies before pooling them up for one movie. From a production standpoint, how is that not more ambitious than just signing a dozen big names to a project—which Inception already lost to Ocean's 11/12/13 anyway?

Downey actually kinda slammed Inception at the Marvel panel. That guy just loves ragging on Nolan's movies.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Must've been denied a part in the past. haha.

The fact that they're making them all stars before the movie is what worries me. That they'll spend too much of the movie trying to make sure each superhero gets a highlighted moment instead of having a good, thorough story. The Ocean's movies were enjoyable because even though there was that all-star cast, it was still really George Clooney as the leader of the pack. Will Downey be the leader here?

It's interesting, because Iron Man was such a success, Stark's gonna be the de facto leader just because it's Downey. But I think Whedon and Marvel know that it HAS to be Cap. But right now they don't know how successful that movie's gonna be (especially since it's a period piece) or if Chris Evans can match Downey's reception.

So my guess is that Nick Fury is going to be the central character. Stark is gonna be the one who wants to take charge, but then they find Cap in ice and through sheer humility and leadership, the others come to respect Cap at the end. Just a hunch.

That's what I'm thinking too, with there being a bit of a struggle with Stark's ego getting in the way, but in the end, the sheer force of Cap's charisma and leadership ability causes even Stark to have to admit to himself that, yeah, Cap is the guy to lead the team.

As I recall that's how it played out in the animated film, and it worked pretty well.

Yeah, Whedon already said as much that we'll see a Stark/Rogers banter in the movie just because of how different their personalities are.

In Whedon terms, I guess think the kind of strife we saw in Mal/Jayne or Cyclops/Wolverine.

Thor trailer leaked. It's online, and being passed around 4chan, if anyone wants to go and find it.

My god, this is going to be so - so terrible. Poor Branaugh.

    Oh god.

What...what the hell was that? That was fucking horrible.

It doesn't even look like what people speculated about it being a Shakespearean, theatrical type venture - it just looks bad.

    Poor Branaugh, indeed.

You're right. It's not dark and gritty enough.

I dunno, it looks like a big battle of the Gods done in a Shakespearean fashion (if you can't see the Shakespeare undertones, you're delusional). It looks like a Marvel movie done epic.
