Trying to torrent this so I can decide to buy it. Damn these broken torrent files. Stealing it from a real store would be easier at this point.Quoting Boner M (view post)

Very cool mixture of pop techno and 8-bit sounds.
Check out their performance at Rome in 1980 where they play much of Remain in Light. Outrageously, earth-shatteringly funky.Quoting Brightside (view post)
I'm digging this album more and more the more I hear it. Why did I wait so long?

The new Arcade Fire, which is kind of....boring. It's been a steep drop off since Funeral, unfortunately.

After several listens, I think Neon Bible is superior to Funeral. Haven't heard the new album yet outside of the one released track.

Funeral has a kind of ramshackle spontaneity, like a bunch of people getting together and by accident finding common points of interest and harmonizing to some pretty awesome tunes.
Neon Bible, on the other hand, is these same people locked in a room together for a year watching CNN, and trying to show how important and serious they are. The songs are way less interesting musically, and the production is way overblown. It is didactic without any energy.
The latest doesn't even have the overblown production. It is all one-paced mid-tempo dirges. Only The Sprawl II manages to stand out, simply because it is different.

Well, I love it. Maybe not as revelatory as Funeral, but I don't think the songs sound anywhere near as samey as you say. And isn't it just natural for them to gravitate away from the stuff they were singing about in their twenties? A band for our increasingly cynical times and all that? I don't get calling Neon Bible didactic, because [Antichrist Television Blues], for instance, isn't condemning anyone; it's pleading with them in an almost embarrassingly overtly emotional way. And even more importantly, for me, it's still a lot of fun to dance and sing along to in my car, just like I'd say 12 out of the 15/16 Suburbs tracks areQuoting transmogrifier (view post)
I had a chance to go see these jokers at Madison Square Garden next week (with Spoon as the opener!!!) but I had to pass on that and now I really regret it

I like The Sprawl II, but the rest of it is just a mid-tempo blur at the moment. I'm sure a few more listens will provide some differentiation (like with all albums), but not feeling it at the moment.Quoting Adam (view post)
Neon Bible has aged terribly for me, though.
