    Ouch.

I wouldn't be as fast as everyone else to say "End it, end it, end it," but if you do talk things out with her, you should say up front that you don't appreciate being manipulated and threatened.

I would like to agree, but unfortunately, when you see that someone is willing to end a long-term relationship via text message, I think that says a lot about how seriously said person takes the relationship to begin with.

Like I said, this is very telling behaviour. I guarantee 100% that this will not be the last time something like this happens.

This is very similar to a situation my uncle experienced two years ago.

He dated a woman for six months who, like DaMU's girlfriend, broke up with him via text message.

My uncle was able to mend things, but 6 weeks later she broke up with him again, this time by simply blocking his phone number, and changing her FaceBook status to state that she was with someone else.

I agree with all of the above as I also dated a girl like that. End it now. Or this bullshit will continue and become very emotionally draining. You're better than that. Anyone who breaks up via text message is a swine.

How long have you been dating?

Whoa. I texted her: Can I come over and we can talk in person?

She texts back: Now you have time. We'll talk tomorrow. Good night.

    You guys might be right.

Q, we'd been dating for a month and a half. Technically the longest relationship I'd ever been in.

But it's over. I drove over, broke up with her face-to-face, got an apple pie from Burger King.

Thanks to everyone for the advice - I was nervous as hell last night, but then your sentiments were reaffirming.

In college I broke up with a girl in the shower. We had sex, got out, and I left feeling pretty good abou the situation.

What's to understand? You break up, you realize you probably won't get to have sex with each other again, so the both of you give it your best. It's fantastic.

I don't think I would go as far to say that angry sex is 'better', but it's certainly more memorable.

There's nothing better then starting a conversation off with a woman slapping you in the face and it ending with her screwing your brains out.

I left out the part where I'm wearing a Trunks costume.

Or she is, depends on my mood.

So I just broke up with my girlfriend of almost sixteen months. She was a great girl and a great friend, but I just didn't feel the love anymore, like that initial feeling was gone, and it was just so hard telling her this and her not understanding because it was not the same thing on her end. IDK, it just really hurt me to have to hurt her like that, but I finally felt like I couldn't let that be the reason for me to force it. So yeah, now I feel like crap.

I'm guessing the initial feeling usually dissipates and is replaced by a different kind of love (something more deep seated). But if you didn't feel any love at all than I guess it probably should have ended. When did you feel that love leave (I'm guessing it was gradual)... when did you start feeling like you wanted to break up? Sorry to hear about that, break ups are always painful from both ends.

really i did suffer both as a leavee and leaver. the two's just incomparable. the feeling is so vastly different that i can't really say which is worse or better.

so i'll just stick which whatever condition i'm in, the other one is better.

It's infinitely better to leave than to be left. I'm also speaking from experience.

I find I can process guilt much better than loss or regret.

Yes. Plus it's much easier to accept/understand your reasons for leaving someone as opposed to their reasons for leaving you.

Isn't that an odd statement? That's like saying it's easier to know why I would punch a random stranger rather than why a random stranger would punch me. I mean, duh.

Yes, hence why for me there's no contest between being the dumper and the dumpee. Others were mixed; the obvious was stated.

And you chose to ignore the "accept" in the sentence which renders your example useless. Perhaps some people would have trouble accepting their need to punch a random stranger.

I believe those two parts of love are called passionate and companionate love. Don't remember where I learned that, so don't quote me. But yeah, there's inevitably a loss of passion, and some couples can bridge that into a deep, rewarding friendship.
