Can't wait.
My initial instinct is that this may not be a good idea. But he's successfully navigated tricky terrain before, so we'll see. In Django, he sided with a freed slave. With Basterds, he put us on the side of Nazi-killers. Hopefully he'll find a way to similarly make this palatable.

Tarantino movie not a western? Sweet.
That's my reaction too.Quoting Skitch (view post)
Obviously, no idea of the kind of approach he's taking here. Is he doing it in his supposed "real world" that Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction, and Reservoir Dogs take place in, or his "movie world" of Kill Bill and Basterds?
Saying that, I almost forgot about Hateful Eight. Wow...
Hateful Eight is a great film. I don't know what quality of cinema you watch on a daily basis, Ezee, but even if it's not an instant classic, it's better than 95% of what I get to see.
Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate apparently. Not 100% final but it's who they want.

Wouldn't it have been trickier if he had put us on the side of the nazis?Quoting Spinal (view post)
I guess what I'm saying is 'please define tricky?'

I fully enjoyed his western entries, but I'd prefer he moves to a more modern setting.
I like it too. Just kept thinking Django was his last movie.Quoting Grouchy (view post)
I think I was initially mixed. I've grown to like it more over time, but I don't think it compares to Django/Bill/Basterds at all.Quoting Grouchy (view post)
I'm wondering if Hateful Eight is a new transition for character-focused stories.
Res / Pulp / Jackie
Bill / Basterds / Django
Hateful Eight is next??
Well, he seems to be liking his movies to take place in closed quarters more and more, which would fit the Manson story.
Certain subject matter can be unpleasantly exploitative and tasteless if the artist does not find the correct angle. Tarantino has mostly avoided this trap in the past, which is why I am giving him the benefit of the doubt here.Quoting Morris Schæffer (view post)

I would be very disappointed if the movie is just confined to the incident at Polanski's house.Quoting Grouchy (view post)

Brad Pitt as Manson is some weird casting.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
Good subject matter for a James Ellroy-style crime epic.Quoting number8 (view post)
I would hope they don't reenact the murders at all if this gets made. The word "Pig" getting written on a wall in a pregnant woman's blood is not something I need in my life as entertainment.
Same here but it does seem to fit Quentin's recent trademarks. Personally, I'm more interested in Winston's Ellroy reference - the Manson murders are a great backdrop for the portrait of an era in American culture.Quoting number8 (view post)
By the way, has anyone seen the fictional films already made about this subject? There are surprisingly not that many of them.
Saw part of the Jeremy Davies one on TV. Terrible. I am more weary of this subject matter than previous Tarantino movies. There is the potential there to glamorise Charles Manson, when in reality he's just pathetic creep who took advantage of some very vulnerable people.
Good related reading on the subject, and a great book in general, is the chapter on Leslie Van Houten in John Waters' Role Models.
