I need to do my state ratings thread...Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Mass has not been visited yet.
The best state in the union is clearly []
I think probably 3/4 of the states suck and are nowhere that I would want to live.

Except if someone was to ask in a vacuum that you could live in the state with the best high school education, the best economy, the best colleges, best hospitals with one of the most liberal and social accepting capital cities in the country, near oceans, beaches and mountains, all four seasons, all four surrounding states in the 10 ten lowest crime per capita and the only negative is you have to pay a little more in taxes.... *raises hand*
Best economy? California would like a word.
Liberal? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banned...nned_in_Boston
Only negative is taxes? The fucking place is packed with Red Sox fans!
We here in Minnesota have the world's largest mustache.

Losing is like fertilizer: it stinks for a while, then you get used to it. (Tony, Hibbing)
For the record, Massachusetts and Minnesota are two of the states that I don't think suck.

Heh Wasn't California bankrupt a couple of years ago?Quoting Irish (view post)
It's true though. Sox fans are assholes.

Uh.. no?Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
California has one of the top ten economies in the world. It's usually around #5-7, routinely switching places with France.
(Although I guess too it depends on how strictly you're defining basic words like "best" and "bankrupt.")
Bankrupt in the sense that they were giving out IOUs for unemployment benefits.Quoting Irish (view post)
edit: yup. they were. https://money.cnn.com/2009/07/02/new...lifornia_IOUs/
Dude. That was 10 years ago (and also 10 months after the '08 crash, at the end of the fiscal year).Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
A "couple of years ago," California's economy grew at almost twice the rate of the United States (4.1% versus 2.4%). Last year, they projected a ~$6 billion budget surplus.
I was mostly joking in my original reply, not trying to start a serious discussion about state economies. I shoulda have worded it better to make that come across.
ETA: I'm really only here to make fun of Boston and Red Sox fans.

Hey I'm just sayin! I'm still in joke mode here... no seriousness. Just sayin' here in MA we didn't have any speed-bumps during the recession. I was unemployed for 9 months. Was a hreat summer.
That's a definite plus but otoh I never realized how tiny Mass is --- the entire state is smaller than NYC and the Bay Area -- and how much of the population is centralized around the Greater Boston area (about half the total pop, TIL!).
To put it in perspective: during the height of the recession California had more unemployed than Boston has residents.
Just out of curiousity: Have you ever lived anywhere else but Boston, Duke?
Yeh we have about the population of NYC alone. Which is why I would be worried about being unemployed in the next recession living in CA, and not in MA.
And No. Boston only.
edit: I also found it funny you scoffed at my 10 years ago reference though you have no problem linking to a 'Banned in Boston' crusade originating in the 19th century.
For travel...
I'm thinking of a 1-4 ranking...
"THINGS TO DO" - self explanatory
"FOOD" - original restaurants and types of cuisine and drink
"Getting around" - includes traffic, airport ease, walking vs. driving
"The people" - nice, accessible, etc.
"City VS. Outside" - same ratings, but how about outside the main city??
Anything else?
INCOMING soon.
When I tried doing that, someone suggested for me to pick a food like chicken wings in each place you visit. And compare them as you go city to city. Some standard food you could find easily.
I've been to enough places for enough times where I think I can just judge as a whole by now. Otherwise I'd prob pick pizza.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Lou Malanati’s in Chicago is excellent pizza.

There is a time and place for thin crunchy crust, but I’ll take Chicago style deep dish over thin crust most days.

Pizza is pizza guys. All shapes and sizes work.
I hope at the very least you felt dirty typing that.Quoting Scar (view post)
