Lightsabers don't work in video games. They're a terrible game mechanic. In the films and fiction, they're one hit kills, but in the video games they are nothing more than glowing swords. Why they keep trying to make them work is beyond stupid.

It's like Superman - playing superman in a video game is boring, unless every single enemy is made of krypton. The last Superman game had a great idea - give the city a health bar. That was actually a stroke of genius. Too bad the game sucked.

Yeah, that's true. I was playing WoW regularly back when SWTOR was still being developed, and my guild mates all had reservations. My retort was, "Dude, doesn't matter. Lightsabers!"

I rarely admitted that there was no way to balance a Jedi class against anything else, or that there would ever be a compelling reason to play anything other than a Jedi.

Which, unfortunately as far as SWTOR was concerned, turned out to be true.

The F2P thing still shocks me. That's an open admission that they fucked up beyond belief. The game isn't even a year old.

I think somewhere in this thread I predicted 6 months until FTP.

At least I hope I did, because I was thinking it.

At PAXEast 2011, the line to play SWTOR was over 2 hours for entire three day weekend.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

The first time I got into multiplayer on PC. Lots of fun. Back in 2001. I'll never forget how the usual smacktalk suddenly went away, replaced by words such as "WTC" and "airplanes." It ceased being fun at that moment.

Rage is quite spectacular. Some of the missions are incredibly exciting, especially on Nightmare level. Saving everywhere helps though. Some really icky corridors like only ID can craft them.

Global Offensive is the new Counterstrike. Have you played?

And aside from the giant set piece that is Rage, you're truely impressed by the missions? By the combat?

The Bad News: It's going to be at least a month before I can play it!

Well, I hardly ever have the time to play multiplayer games. When I do, it seems like a smarter bet to play a thing like Battlefield 3 which takes something like the original CS to its logical extreme with vehicles, bigger levels, better graphics etc... Although I haven't exactly bothered to look up any info on CS: GO.

I think what Rage does really exceptionally well is convey a sense of place with its outdoor locations, but also with its indoor locales. So when I descend into the sewers or make my way into an abandoned hospital, the illusion is complete, absolute. The enemies are a vicious bunch, never quite standing in one spot, but often charging straight at me. It keeps me on my toes. Weaponry feels meaty, not too original so far, but I like the way they feel, the way they fire. As for the missions, I suppose they're pretty much fetch quests, and thus nothing to write home about. And yet, as I inch my forward, there's never any doubt I'm completely enveloped in the world. Cool side stuff too such as the races and mutant bash Tv.

    I love Rebel Assault, personally.

It's sad that the I-III Lego trilogy is a better game than IV-VI.

By the by, is anyone gonna get Darksiders II?

Jedi Outcast handled lightsabers pretty well, especially once you turned on the "dismemberment" cheat.

To be honest, I never got into the Kotor games, nor did I play any Star Wars games on the PC either although I sampled the likes of Rebel Assault and Dark Forces over at friends. The arcade cabinet Watashi posted I always thought looked awesome, but arcades in Belgium are like Imax screens. Ain't gonna find one. Episode 1: Pod Racer On the N64 was decent, especially with two joypads to simulate Anakin's control cheme in the movie.

That being said, SSW got nothing but great reviews back in the early 90's. It may be odd, to repurpose this franchise as a Platform shooter, but in every way it felt like the same universe. The brief voice samples were great, the music also, the swoosh swoosh of the saber was all kinds of awesome to my ears while the Super Nes's patented Mode 7 effects, used for the landspeeder and trench scenes, a sight to behold.

Edit: Ok, I gotta ask, have you actually played it?

Best Star Wars game, it had live action cut scenes and yes, your light sabers could cut stormtroopers limbs off.

Yup. That was the sequel to Jedi Knight. It's full title was. Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. It handled lightsabers the same as Jedi Knight, but the story was a weak excuse to build Kyle's powers again, and no live action cut scenes.

This is how the game freakin opened. Awesome. The first one is the intro and at 4:00 you start playing. The dialog is especially impressive you and you won't find anything like this in any other Star Wars game. This game was way before it's time.

If you wanna see a cool Match Cut, go to 3:38 in the 2nd video in the spoiler text.
