Can’t confirm that this officer was POC, but I can confirm from the body cam footage that she fucked up and then realized she fucked up.

Were they, or are you just talking hypotheticals?

I don't think it's a controversial statement to say an alarming number of black people die at the hands of police.
Whether this was racially motivated or not (looks to be not) it's still more fuel on the fire.

So this really boils my blood.

My wife held a huge fundraiser for BLM last year and what is the founder doing with it? Buying three multi-million dollar homes.
Wow. Yeah. That is horrendous if true.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)

The saddest thing about this is that BLM has legit concerns which are long overdue getting some serious dialog started on, but all the talking heads on right wing media are just gonna glom onto this story in an attempt to delegitimize the entire BLM movement.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
And their followers will buy it hook, line and sinker.

I don't see what the issue is. Presumably as the head of a charitable organization she collects a salary and is entitled to spend it as she pleases. Do right-wingers expect her to work for free?

I also doubt that any other charitable organization is different.
They're almost all uniformly shady with where the money ends up.

Maybe I've completely misunderstood charitable and NFP organizations my whole life, but my understanding of these things was that the entire point was doing it for reasons other than personal gain.Quoting baby doll (view post)

Charitable organizations are still, after all, organizations and have to spend money on staff, offices, overhead, etc. Running a charity that brings in 90 million a year is as much work as running a large business; it's not something one can do as a hobby or a side-gig. A charity of that size that doesn't pay its staff, or pays them very little, to do exhausting, time-consuming labour is going to have a hard time attracting and retaining the most qualified people to run the organization.Quoting megladon8 (view post)

I still think it seems like a bit much and maybe she should have been a bit more...tactful? With the money.
Like bac0n, I really hope this doesn't disrail the movement and any positive change that has come or is in the works.

All this talk about the BLM organization...but is BLM really an organization? Sure, there is the original group, of which that one lady is a co-founder, but it's more a movement these days, which is a lot different. Calling BLM an organization is like calling the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s an organization.
The distinction is important because an organization is a lot easier to monolithize (and therefor sell as an existential threat) than a movement.

I think she's equally entitled to a nice vacation house as any CEO. After all, it's her money. She earned it. It's not anyone else's business what she does it with as a private citizen.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
