I have not gotten to check out the 'Zilla game yet (been super busy with the first few weeks of my store being open) but I've read the same thing about the manual, and downloaded the revised instructions.

RE: Betrayal at House on the Hill - I've seen you guys playing that one a few times in pics on FB. We have it as well, but it says it's for 3+ players. Do you guys have a third player? Or are you playing a custom 2 player game?

I've really gotten into board games of late, and so has Jen.

    Our collection so far:

    King of Tokyo
    King of New York
    Gloom
    Roll for It
Betrayal at House on the Hill
    Fury of Dracula
    Tsuro
    Claustrophobia
    Cthulhu Realms
    Pandemic
Have you beaten Pandemic? Me and some friends found the winning formula of how many players you need (4; too many players means you never get to use their abilities) and which roles they should be (Scientist, Researcher, Dispatcher, and Medic). We beat it for the first time couple months ago, though we spent over half an hour at the end arguing through our remaining 11 moves (it's always running out of cards that gets us) like we were Bobby Fischer trying to get to checkmate. It was the only thing that allowed us to win and were only able to accomplish it on the final move. That game is damn near impossible.

Haven't even gotten to try it yet. It's difficult getting the right group together for some games. A couple of people in our group hate co-op games so if they're involved, Pandemic is out.

Also as mentioned previously I've been super busy with my store's opening. This past weekend was the first weekend I've had off since before Christmas.

I played Pandemic last Friday with my wife - we beat it on normal mode (4 epidemics) using the dispatcher and the medic, the two most valuable roles in the game, IMO: medic for triage, the dispatcher to coordinate getting the right cards into the right hands to facilitate cures. If there's a third and fourth player, it's usually the researcher and scientist who join the fight.

Another pretty handy role (if you have the on the brink expansion) is the Containment Specialist, who automatically removes one cube from any city he passes through that has more than one cube on it (a great defense against those dreaded cascading outbreaks).

I don't have the expansion but that sounds like a really fun role.

I have it too! But it's just the original trilogy, so no Jar Jar or Naboo.

Oh okay I guess Naboo is in it.

But it's just events and characters from the OT.

It's pretty cool how you play through the events of the OT but events can change depending on how it plays out.

Played a 4 player game of Buffy the Vampire Slayer today. Was a first time play for all of us.

This game is fantastic. Really great stuff. Components are great quality, the board is awesome, the balance during play is really intriguing.

We ended up losing (and it seems it is a difficult game to win) but had a wonderful fun time and can't wait to try again.

I had a leftover gift certificate, so I decided to pick up this game I've had my eye on for a while now:

Looking forward to sending my steampunk mechs storming across eastern europe and blowing up Naboo, because fuck Jar-Jar.

    Scythe looks cool.

I recently bought Acquire and Bloodborne: The Card Game--haven't played them yet though.

Scythe is actually more intuitive and has a better flow than lots of the more, shall we say, complicated games that I have acquired over the past few years. I feel confident that I could explain the gist of the game in about 10 minutes, which is a good thing, as there are many different paths to victory.

And the art direction. Holy shit, what a beautiful game.

Decided to back a kickstarter campaign for what might possibly be the most amazingly nerdy game I have ever seen. It takes place in an alternate history ancient Greece where the gods are real, and they somehow got their hands on advanced alien technology. MINOTAURS AND LASERS, PEOPLE.

Delays and complications notwithstanding, should be ready to ship right about the time it starts to get cold up here. Looks pretty flippin' sweet! You should all back this campaign so that they can make more of their stretch goals and I can get more goodies. Free rep to anyone who does.
