Seriously have you guys seen this shit? Maybe I've been living in a bubble because MASS is doin' OK but boy.. WTF happened America??

I’ve been following it. Neighboring Wisconsin is a hot spot due to their courts striking down bar / restaurant restrictions and what not. It’s been a slow, painful observation.
Prioritized opening bars and restaurants rather than schools. Didn't do enough stimulus or support to allow places to stay closed for long enough. Caved to people crying out for a warped sense of freedom that prioritized individual comfort over collective good. Had a leader that trivialized and undermined support for mask-wearing. That same leader failed to care enough beyond what he thought he could do to protect the stock market, didn't prepare despite warnings, and then once he realized that it was states he didn't need to win re-election he ignored the problem. All because he can't bear to look like he was wrong. Now we're fucked for way longer than we should have been.
"Damn, this is serious.....eh it's not that bad......damn, this is serious.....eh, it's not that bad...."
Well here in Ohio, most still don't believe in it. Lots of indoor dining, people waiting around the block to get in, food trucks, mass tourism, no masks. They believe the "fake republican" DeWine is really a democrat plant. When he says things in support of Fauci and masks, they claim he's part of the liberal deep-state trying to secure a spot in cabinet if Biden wins. They don't believe the numbers of positive cases or the death count. These aren't things I'm exaggerating. I asked my dad, "are you saying there is such a mass conspiracy that doctors and nurses around the world are fudging numbers to increase the counts in any sort of large way?"
With out missing a beat he said, "YES." These are things posted on FB by my co-workers, people in the community, relatives.
My parents both are coming through a couple weeks of covid (had to be, all the symptoms, too sick to move off couch, refused to get tested or see doctor because believe government would then shut down their businesses), and my dad is still hacking his lungs out and continues to lose weight. I'm powerless. I can't get them to go to doctor.
Its maddening. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Trumpers will follow him to the grave. He is their messiah.
For Colorado, it was schools/colleges reopening. We were doing very well, even with restaurants/bars opening to limited capacity and 10 PM closing times. Then Labor Day hit, University of Colorado had dorms and curfews set for anyone below 21 (seriously, no idea how that was enforced). Certain cities were able to do high school football, others weren't...
It's kind of a mess. We had our highest daily total a few days ago.
My county is leading the way of covid. Fucking amish.
Another meme I'm fucking sick of seeing on my FB feed is "why dont the amish have covid? because they don't watch fake news."
That is usually followed by local doctors and nurses posts pleading with people to wear masks, our local hospital is really full of people who are really fucking sick from this shit. I live in a circus of insanity.
Rupert Murdoch broke this country.
USA's biggest day hit Friday with 81k.
Also skyrocketing with heaviest cases of the year in many European countries too.
Italy went from 1k to 20k in 3 weeks.
It's awful in Germany
My two countries are still doing the business (New Zealand and Korea)
Still, a vaccine is the only thing that is going to bring an end to this. The longer it goes on, the more likely most countries are just going to throw up their hands US-style and just say "fuck it, this is too hard" and just let whatever happens happen. Of course, who the fuck knows what will happen if we just let it go unchecked. It doesn't have a super high lethality, so there is no guarantee that it will evolve to be more benign like most flus end up doing. Who knows? Can we just have a bubble country network containing NZ, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore etc so we can travel somewhere for fun? That would be cool.
I keep thinking the world needs drastic measures of some kind, but outside the box. Kind od like when the Americans took the Germans from the neighboring town to look at the concentration camp atrocities first hand... Offer the deniers to go into the COVID wards without protective equipment, and then quarantine them so they don't hurt others...
I saw on reddit today, in the article "Idaho county drops mask mandate despite warning of overwhelmed hospital", this quote:
Your country is fucked when people like this are running things. That quote is almost stunning in its utter stupidity.Quote:
Another member [of the regional health department board], Allen Banks, denied COVID-19 exists.
"Something's making these people sick, and I'm pretty sure that it's not coronavirus, so the question that you should be asking is, 'What's making them sick?'" he told the medical professionals who testified.
There are so, so many people in the USA who believe Trump when he continues to say that America is the best in the world when it comes to Corona virus response and numbers.
The blind compliance to the wills of uncaring billionaires is just...astounding.
America is going to be a third world country within a century if people don't wake the fuck up.
Agree with both your posts. And these people will blame democrats and conspiracies. They talk about hunting democrats in the streets around here.
I hate to be a cold cunt about covid, but it's just gonna have to sort these fuckers out. You cant gaslight a virus, and they absolutely refuse to listen to reason, I mean what the fuck am I supposed to do about it then??
I always thought captain Tripp's from the stand was absolutely horrifying. Turns out theres something worse than a fast virus....a slow one. Human stupidity finds a way to deny its real.
Otoh...if it does kind of just fade away...the conspiracy nutters will add it to the stack forever. My god do I hate conspiracy nuts.
I'm all for "let them die" if it wasn't for the virus being so highly contagious. The sheer willingness to endanger countless lives to prove a point shows what exactly the current political and economic systems have done to people and why there's no hope for peaceful, joint global action on common problems: many will never be able to think beyond personal gain or really trust another human being.
Star Trek grows even more fantastical than Star Wars. What an insane thing for me to say.
This part truly bothers me (in how true it is).
Aside from my wife, I cannot think of a single person on the planet that I trust completely.
That is a very, very sad thing to state. But it is true.
When push comes to shove, even our close friends will obliterate us for personal gain.
Thus, we have Donald Trump as the POTUS. Probably for 2 terms.
Trump isn't winning. I'm convinced at this point with the early voting.
Yeah, I think he's going down. That he even got elected is the biggest wake up call that you could get. It's not him, it's not the Republicans - it's the many trends that lead to that critical mass that Americans generally ignored for DECADES. I'm looking at your 20th century history and all of this was there, people were sounding the horn longer than I am alive, horrible things happened that made people think that FOR SURE things would change now, but they didn't. I still have hope, but not too much.
