I like everything TFC, but Bandwagonesque will always be their most accomplished record to me, the most special. I saw them live about a year ago performing the album in its entirety (and then some early singles at the encore) and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to. The start with "The Concept" was brutally emotional, and I even cried at the end, with "Is This Music?". I had already seen them before and enjoyed the hell out of it, yet that was sublime.

 to all this TFC love, but I gotta agree with DD again that their later stuff was pretty horrid. Songs From Northern Britain was unlistenable.

Sounds like a great show. The Concept is my 2nd fave from that album.

Yeah, I heard it. And while the distortion thing is a little cute, I certainly don't think that it signifies Merritt being past his prime. The songs themselves are as good as they ever were (some of them are phenomenally awesome), and the distortion isn't that prominent. Plus, The Magnetic Fields have always been a borderline lo-fi electronica band, so to hear them experiment with sound with some of this album's prolonged fuzz-beats, warped synths, and strange moods is a natural progression, it feels like.

It's certainly more palatable than that boring Panda Bear album that randomly throws sound effects every which way through a haze of shroom-induced echoiness.

Many will agree that Marjory Razorblade is his masterpiece, me included... "Eastbourne Ladies" is one of those 'how-isn't-this-a-clasic-rock-FM-staple' songs. Case History is good if you want something really raw, stripped-down and nakedly emotional to the point of scariness. It outdoes Syd Barrett's The Madcap Laughs in those departments. I've also heard Blame it on the Night, which is OK but forgettable.

Regina Spektor - Fidelity

Such a great song. Thanks so much to KF for introducing me to Regina Spektor.

I'm glad you like her. With as many people as I've recommended her, half have come back complaining. I think she's amazing.

Malkmus' new stuff is pretty good. It reminds me of both 60s bluesy guitar bands and B&S-like twee. At the same time.

And Zorn rocks your asses in all his reinventions. Naked City and Torture Garden are classic albums, and everything he's done with Masada is mind-fucking. His most recent album, Six Lithanies for Heliogabalus, is pretty rad too.
