I really should give the s/t one another shot and Untrue seems like one that could grow on me over time. There's just something about dubstep (and I'm only going on the few albums I've heard) that I find a little offputting, but maybe it's just a matter of getting used to the style.

Hmm, for me it's a style that really appeals to me (most dub-inspired genres do), but outside of Burial and some of Kode9, I've yet to hear an artist that really blows me away. Nonetheless, I think it'll only get better, so I'll be constantly seeking out new stuff.

I should definitely hear more from the sub-genre before writing it off as "not my thing". Which Kode9 album would you recommend starting with. Also, they're not dubstep (though are tagged as dub on RYM), but have you heard anything by Pole before? I've only heard Steingarten from this year, but it's magnificent.

Memories of the Future is the one to get. There's a few weak spots, but the highlights are just endlessly addictive. "Backward" was featured in Children of Men (as was a lot of dubstep).

I'll check out Pole.

I've been listening to David Gilmour's latest solo album. It contains a handful of really great tracks. Of course it sounds very much like the Pink Floyd, and I wouldn't want it any other way. It is a good companion piece to The Division Bell.

Also been listening to David Lynch's new single, Ghost of Love, the song he sings in Inland Empire. There is also a very cool b-side called Imaginary Girl.

Stacked Actors-Foo Fighters. Hardcore, head banging good tune-age that is also my favorite track off their album There Is Nothing Left to Lose. The album is pretty solid, but I feel that the band is better at fast paced, hard rock/grunge than they are at softer power ballads although they have a few slower songs that are good. I really like the band as a whole though, and I want to get my hands on The Colour and the Shape especially.

Bah. Bah, I say! I think what I love about the album is how the chaotic musical arrangements are brought together, which I guess is the same thing that could make it seem self-conscious if only it weren't so layered and emotionally gratifying. It may not be as "free" as Alkuharka (the only other album I've heard from them), but I think the increased reliance on found sounds gives it a texture that was lacking before. For my money, it's one of the wildest, most fascinating albums of the year. A good thing. ;)

If I have to be honest, my merely whelmed reaction might have something to do with the fact that the production isn't as murky here, which I fear may have 'lifted the veil' from their appeal to some degree, at least for me.

That said, a second and third repeat are revealing some more layers and highlights for me (love the appropriation of Chinese traditional music on "Himmelimenetelmä"), so I should hold my words for now. It's definitely another progression for them.

I listened to the album twice now. It's not bad. Nothing special, but not bad. I have no idea why that smilie is used, because I'm completely out of touch with what people like/dislike when it comes to music, but I imagine they aren't terribly popular? Or are, and that's the problem? Either way, "The Weight of the World" is a pretty great song.

I don't really know how other people feel about them, they've just always been "Lame Interpol" to me. (I can't even begin to imagine how people who dislike Interpol might feel about them!)

I saw them at a festival three years ago with a friend. We both looked at each other and said "wait... this sounds like interpol...". We then left.

I've only listened to Interpol sparingly, so I can't really comment on that. Have you heard The Weight of the World? It's a pretty great song.

Anyway, this makes me feel less embarrassed to admit I'm listening to:

The Killers - Read My Mind.

The entire album is so over the top, even terrible, yet I listen to it frequently.

It's like the Commando of 2007 CD releases.WTF? Sam's Town is a near great album. There's nothing over the top about it to me. I don't understand your line of thinking here. Throw me a bone man :P Also I'm pretty sure its a 2006 release.
