Soulseek. It's also on what.cd, but that one's invite-based and since it's bitch to keep that ratio high, I use it sparingly. Either way, I will get copy online for you, probably tomorrow when I'm back home with a stronger connection.

Very nice and soothing, but some nice acoustic guitarwork in there too.

Ever heard of Kevin Hufnagel? Apparently he's a prog/death metal guitarist for supposedly good metal bands like Gorguts and Dysrhythmia, but he recently put out his first ambient album (http://kevinhufnagel.bandcamp.com/) and it's pretty incredible. The review that turned me onto him compared him to early Eluvium and there's a nice combination of gentle noise with melodic and surreal guitars. Really cool stuff.

Have you seen The Devil yet? Get on that. Also Third Part of the Night. And rewatch Possession. Szamanka and The Most Important Thing: Love are also somewhere between good and great. Szamanka has a crazed, hypersexual girl who eats the protagonist's brain. The Most Important Thing: Love has Kinski dominating every scene he's in. On the Silver Globe is pretty good as well, but too allegorical for my taste.

New album from The Men streaming here (http://3voor12.vpro.nl/#!/luisterpaal/albums.html). Only listened twice, but I definitely like it. Not as bludgeoning, as Boner said, as the first album, but still plenty noise/feedback. Less screaming for sure, more instrumental tracks.

Anathema appear to have taken the whole crescendo structure to heart on this album. Layers appear to constantly build and overlap each other--especially in "The Beginning and the End"--but the lyrical jump in "Untouchable" a little over halfway in seems odd.

Kind of. Finally placed his name - he's kind of a weird dude. He kept hounding me about making music for one of his vegan/environmental videos, and I told him I wasn't interested. I said he could use my existing music if he credited me. Then he spammed some music forums I go to about getting artists on board with his political movements or something.

I'm glad he likes my music a lot, and I appreciate him for doing what he does.

Funny, the book I'm reading right now name-dropped Current 93 this morning, so I was in the mood for this era this morning.
Those Current 93 tracks were excellent. Were you ever a fan of this band, from that era -- I wasn't crazy about all their stuff (I liked the early Factory recordings), but here's a great song:

Are there any other tracks on that album that approach that quality? The few samples I've checked out make it seem like a one-off piece of rock brilliance.

Also, the Anathema album is streaming here (http://www.mixcloud.com/zeromustafa/anathema-weather-systems/). :pritch: It will be played for the next two weeks, or until it goes away.

D, were you an Ultravox fan? The only post-Foxx stuff I like is Vienna (saw them tour that one live, too; it was amazing). My all-time favorite Ultravox/Foxx song is My Sex (the original live version is killer, but I can't find it on YouTube).

Here's the studio version, to give people an idea of its awesomeness (check all the J G Ballard references):

I was never huge into Ultravox. I liked some songs, but never full albums, and only dabbled. I had never even heard My Sex before - cool track.

In the early '90s I bought a large stack of records off of this dude - a bunch of Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen, Depeche Mode, and Cure LPs, and mixed in were two Ultravox albums; I don't even remember which ones. I liked some of the songs on those, but that's about the extent of my Ultravox liking.

I'm closer to you guys than EC, but I still think it would've been much better trimmed down to an 8-10 song single LP. There are 4 or 5 great songs, 4 or 5 really good ones and the rest is total filler. The 8 or 9 songs I kept on my Ipod do make for some pretty sweet listening though.

I feel like an album which is of that size has to set a course and keep it focused to maintain my interest along the way. otherwise, I just can't stay focused enough to wade the through it and make it worth the investment. It's not a bad listen, but it's not a great one either. I had the same problem, albeit worse, with M83's last record. Perhaps it's degenerative musical concentration. But lately, I've been seeking tight, focused, and highly concentrated releases. Another factor is the that the new synth-driven, Drive soundtrack-y dream pop isn't doing it for me this year. Beach House still hits the spot, though. Really digging their last one.

The Flaming Lips lost me for a while, but it appears Heady Fwends is/has become the proper follow-up to Embryonic. Some of the lyrics are dopey (title?), but overall I really like it. Other highlights for me include collabs with Bon Iver, Lightning Bolt and Erykah Badu.

Yeah, what Boner said. "Myth" and "Lazuli" are the highlights and the rest are all really good, but it's just not quite as great as Teen Dream. And while Alex has a great voice, the decision to mostly keep Victoria's vocals on the sideline is one I don't quite get.

I love it too. I don't know if you're into the chick singer/songwriter sound, but I absolutely love this cover one of my good friends does of this song:

So far, my song of the year. Absolutely wicked. This is how you write a song.
