I posted this in the ISOYFD thread, but no one seemed to respond to it, so it gets it's own thread, by proxy.
So, what film (or films) can the Match-Cut collective not go without mentioning, whenever the opportunity presents itself?
For my part, I think mine are semi-well known, by now. Your George Miller films, your Tarsem, as well as Jodorowsky and Kubrick, on occasion.
Oh, and anything with Gregory Hines. Obvious, in hindsight.

I don't know what that means? Like what do the majority of people here splooge all over?
Mulholland Drive
2001: A Space Odyssey
Or do you mean as individuals? In that case I've taken it upon myself to champion random underseen films. I have quite a few but the ones I've talked up most are probably My Friend Ivan Lapshin (German) and Brighton Rock (Boulting). I've also been championing Alexander Mackendrick a little bit. And of course I love Tarkovsky, Fellini and miscellaneous peoples.

I'll rephrase it - what film (or films) can you not go without mentioning, whenever the opportunity presents itself? The ones that you always find yourself recommending, and so on.

Mostly things that I think are underseen... which tends to be hard to find in this film circle so usually I'll just express my enjoyment of any given film and move on.

The Life Aquatic would have to be mine. I don't do much recommending, but I definitely can't go without mentioning it given the chance.

For me it depends on the situation. If I'm talking about action movies, I can't help but name-check Cameron, Spielberg, and Miller. If I'm talking about horror, I lately have to talk about Kiyoshi Kurosawa and Val Lewton. When I talk about films similar to what I'd like to make, I use Unbreakable and Seven as examples.
Since last Monday, though, I've been a broken record about Drag Me to Hell.

I'll almost always chime in on any classic age Japanese film.

the Matrix. I'm a big advocate of the whole trilogy. And when I need to, I'll defend Signs to my grave.

So, why didn't you name this thread in a way that would give people a reason to enter?
I'll mention Slacker whenever I get a chance. Pretty much anything else in my top ten as well.

Black Narcissus, probably because I typically get involved in "good cinematography" discussions.

BTW, can we make sure this is the last thread with this vague of a subject. I don't want this to be a trend, or even be repeated.

I think I tend to pimp A Clockwork Orange, Synecdoche, New York, and Paul Thomas Anderson's oeuvre kind of a lot.

The two films on that list I've seen are Slacker and Full Metal Jacket, and both are masterpieces so I will definitely check out the rest of them.
Edit: Holy fucking Christ, WR: Mysteries of the Organism still isn't on Netflix? Do I seriously have to buy this thing?
