So, what film (or films) can the Match-Cut collective not go without mentioning, whenever the opportunity presents itself?

For my part, I think mine are semi-well known, by now. Your George Miller films, your Tarsem, as well as Jodorowsky and Kubrick, on occasion.

Oh, and anything with Gregory Hines. Obvious, in hindsight.

Or do you mean as individuals? In that case I've taken it upon myself to champion random underseen films. I have quite a few but the ones I've talked up most are probably My Friend Ivan Lapshin (German) and Brighton Rock (Boulting). I've also been championing Alexander Mackendrick a little bit. And of course I love Tarkovsky, Fellini and miscellaneous peoples.

Mostly things that I think are underseen... which tends to be hard to find in this film circle so usually I'll just express my enjoyment of any given film and move on.

For me it depends on the situation. If I'm talking about action movies, I can't help but name-check Cameron, Spielberg, and Miller. If I'm talking about horror, I lately have to talk about Kiyoshi Kurosawa and Val Lewton. When I talk about films similar to what I'd like to make, I use Unbreakable and Seven as examples.

Since last Monday, though, I've been a broken record about Drag Me to Hell.

The two films on that list I've seen are Slacker and Full Metal Jacket, and both are masterpieces so I will definitely check out the rest of them.

Edit: Holy fucking Christ, WR: Mysteries of the Organism still isn't on Netflix? Do I seriously have to buy this thing?
