I agree. They did a good job giving you a sense that you're on different levels of a ship. Esp the docking area and the engine room.Quoting Skitch (view post)

A button press is easily and quickly done. I suspect many players who are averse to said aid will still press the requisite button to see the pathway.Quoting Daniel Davis (view post)

Looks promising. Apparently, there will be thousands of different weapon permutations.

Rainbow 6: Vegas is pretty amazing. I've only played the introductory level in Mexico, but I'm glad I chose the "realistic" setting. God, the tension is palpable and clearing a room by ordering my squad to a different entry point and without taking a hit makes me feel so badass. The weapon sounds are furious.
"was" pretty amazing. My 360 just gave me the red ring of damnation. :-(

Finished Dead Space. Playing on hard difficulty now. Excellent game.
3 stars from action button = me sold on Wii Sports Resort. tim rogers notoriously hates modern Nintendo and the Wii, giving the original Wii Sports one star, Mario Galaxy 2.5, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii 2. To see him finally throwing his support behind one of these products is a surprise of the best possible order.
I just read that EA is planning parts two and three for the 360 and PS3 and that D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye) has been tasked with the adaptation.Quoting Skitch (view post)

Holy crap. So you guys know how I got a new desktop? Well I just popped in Crysis and... wow! I've been holding out this entire time so I could get the full experience of how Crysis is supposed to be played. The graphics are insane. INSANE. The opening few minutes are amazing..........
Wow - that's like the Pitchfork of game sites. They're so edgy, and alternative! It's New Games Journalism!Quoting trotchky (view post)
Game looks good, great even, and I didn't care for the original much.
I might actually pick up a Wii this year. Mainly for Sin and Punishment 2, but Wii Sports 2 also looks like a total blast.
Damn, boy.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)

Yeh, RAID 10 didn't work out as well as I planned. For some reason my PC can't boot into Windows when using RAID10. I get blue screened.Quoting bac0n (view post)
I just read a few of his reviews. Not a big fan. I have no problem with digressions and tangents and musings, but this is pushing it way too far. It's like Harry Knowles by way of Armond White.Quoting trotchky (view post)
Game "Journalists" I Like:
Jeff Green (man I miss that guy! Greenspeak was the best)
Tom Chick
Dave Halverson (while his Japanohilia gets to me sometimes, his enthusiasm for the hobby wins me over - he's also a pretty good writer, although Play magazine is always in desperate need of a much better copy editor)
I'm not a huge fan of action button either, I just find myself agreeing with tim rogers a lot of the time. His reviews were a lot more fun when he wrote for insert credit, though.
All my favorite games journalists aren't journalists anymore: Jeff Green, Shawn Elliott, Luke Smith, Robert Ashley...fortunately though they are all on the Out of the Game podcast (recommended). GiantBomb can be fun, too.
My experience with game criticism begins and ends with [i]Game Players[i] magazine. My subscription ran from 1994 to 1997.
It was a glorious magazine for a glorious time in videogaming. The first great Console War was nearing its end, a new one was approaching, and the editors were huge fans of Monty Python-style humor.
Eventually their small in-jokes spiraled into an extensive mythology full of Lovecraftian touches that necessitated a primer for the uninitiated.
What does this have to do with the original point? Nothing. It's a Monday and I'm feeling nostalgic.
I like the GiantBomb guys.
They're honest, they're fun, and they seem like totally regular guys. I appreciate how down-to-earth they are.
No hidden agenda - if they like a game, they recommend it. If they don't like it, they don't. And they always give solid, sensible reasoning.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"
"Rick...it's a flamethrower."
I dunno if this has been posted yet, but speaking of Jeff Green, this interview 1up did with him at Comic-Con regarding the Sims game he's working on is absolutely hilarious.
Duke, do you think that Crysis for PC can be played with a gamepad? Or are there too many buttons to fit on a gamepad?Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)

Good question! I can certainly try it. The tricky parts would be the gun upgrades and the suit upgrade options. But I suppose it could be done if you map them to the directional pad and use the analog for movement. Although I'm curious on why you would want to do this. FPS play so much better with a mouse and keyboard.Quoting Morris Schæffer (view post)

Pretty soon, Rock Band users from around the world will be able to jam to the rockin' sounds of Z Phantom 4, Twin Cam Akiko, I am not the Janitor, Barry, MK Ultra, and Carl Sagan's Ghost.
That's right. I'm going to turn Rock Band into Ambient Band.
Can't wait.
And as a bonus, I already use the required software in my own studio.
I picked up Resident Evil 5, Far Cry 2 and Street Fighter 4 today. Having a gaming weekend these next few days.
