Let's Share Shorts

Post stuff that really had an impact on you and that you would really like to turn others on to.

I'll start with a couple of short films (10 mins or so) that are available on YouTube:

Title: The Bloody Olive
Director: Vincent Bal
Year: 1997
Country: Belgium
Will appeal to: lovers of film noir, murder mysteries, and anybody with a sense of humor

Title: Panta Rhei
Director: Bert Haanstra
Year: 1951
Country: Netherlands

"We eventually managed to find them near Biskupin, where demonstrations of prehistoric farming are organized. These oxen couldn't be transported to anywhere else, so we had to built the entire studio around them. A scene that lasted twenty-something seconds took us a year and a half to prepare."

Always found this one pretty memorable since seeing it randomly on TV years ago. Director went on to make Jesus' Son. Probably NSFW.

Title: Kitchen Sink
Director: Allison Maclean
Year: 1989
Country: New Zealand
Will appeal to: People into body horror, I guess.

I highly recommend Terry Gilliam's recent The Wholly Family (20 mins). I've seen it, it's great and it has all the makings of a match cut darling.

I can't supply a free version, but here's a link to Gilliam's website, where you can pay $2.99 to see it.

Here's the trailer:

Always been meaning to check out something by Farocki, and just watched this. Intriguing and an intro to an obscure filmmaker really revered by some.

I have very little information on Ben Rivers' 5 minute silent short, House, except to say it's quite appropriate for Halloween.

I didn't see this thread before!

My avatar for the last year+ is from the short film, Suur Tõll, from Estonian animator Rein Raamat. It's my favorite thing ever.

Giving up in 2020. Who cares.
