Twitter expanding to 280 characters? I don't really use it, but that seems to defeat the purpose.

Yeah. I don't get it either. There are several obvious changes they could make to the service that would improve it and longer tweets isn't one of them.
This is cool

Also, this kinda got buried by the Weinstein story but a fourth woman has just come forward that Roman Polanski raped her when she was 15.

I've always heard/read that if we knew half of the sexual crimes that happen in Hollywood and the industry that no one would ever want anything to do with any of it. I guess a point comes when you have to ask yourself if you're OK spending time and money on hobbies that seem to perpetuate sexual assault.
Why do so many men seem to think they are living a porn film? Such a stunning lack of awareness and warped perspective about how much the woman is on the same page (for some, just flat-out toxicity for others).Quoting number8 (view post)

Wow. More sad news. Behold, the origin of "Dukefrukem".
wtf is wrong with so many people? :\

For some reason Tweet tagging isn't working on my computer right now (it's doing all kinds of weird things like making my whole post a quote even with quote tags), so no links--
but two or three other women are now corroborating Emma.
And frankly, after Devin Faraci, Harry Knowles, and Nick Robinson of Polygon, what's really depressing me - you know, aside from watching men presuming to be woke and sensitive but then revealing themselves as slimy little fucks - is just how profoundly bad they are at flirting.
[]
[Sent by Nick Robinson, for full effect, put phone or monitor up to your nose and look down: it reads "Send Nudes". These fucking people.]
I know my emotions should be focusing on what these women endured, but my outrage reserves are low (it's been a year, gang), so pulling from the mockery well at the moment.
What is the context of the Nick Robinson one?
Your previous posts that you deleted were showing up fine. The problem seems to be with you seeing them, not posting them.

Yeh, sometimes you need to refresh your page in order for the tweets to pop up. I had a similar experience when i first started using the tweet wrapper. Also, when posting from work, there's all kinds of IT blockers that mess up the VB code. Thought it was the site for the longest time.Quoting number8 (view post)
He got fired from Polygon a month or so ago after a bunch of women revealed that he's been messaging his female fans (at least one of whom was a teenager at the time) to ask for nudes and blowjobs. He wrote a bullshit apology letter and "took a break from social media" that lasted like 2 weeks. At least Faraci had the sense to leave his public twitter behind and lay low.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)

Thanks. A lot of those stories are on gaming sites I couldn't access from work. I thought it might be employee related but he was messaging fans? Was it the method in which he reached out to his fans that was inappropriate? The use of social media? That seems a bit different than the weinstein / signore stuff.
BTw, the guys at Schmoes Know knew and did nothing. Thoughts there?
I shouldn't say fans--the teenager was, but other women who came forward were women who work in the games industry. They're not Robinson's employees, so it's not strictly workplace harassment, but Polygon fired him because he used his main twitter handle, the one he uses to tweet about tech and gaming while representing the company, to send these unsolicited gross messages.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)

These stories strike me as a perfect storm of guys who (1) held small authority (2) never had a "real" job where they were responsible to anyone on a day-to-day basis (3) never had professional training, including ethics training (4) were self employed, freelance, or otherwise independent in a way that meant their primary interactions happened online and (5) worked for companies with non-existent or geographically remote HR departments.
It doesn't help that the nature of "new media" work is exploitative.
As usual, I don't have any judgment for victims who are too afraid or ashamed to come forward.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)

We have a low workload this week, so the co-workers and I have been brainstorming Halloween costume ideas 'cause one has a sudden costume party coming up this weekend. Highlights include:
For couples, Frankenstein/Bride outfits but with yarmulke and tichel.
Pronounce it "Franken-steen" and spend the whole night kvetching.
Wear blue biking helmet, customized; hippie outfit with generous denim and thick beard.
Mega Manfred Man.
Wear flamboyant apparel but with Renaissance powdered wig.
Ludwig von Gay-Thoven.
Rodent/rat style outfit, spray-painted gold.
Gofer the Gold.
Wear red/black cape and turban with snake scepter, also goggles and Lakers 33 jersey.
Kareem Abdul Jafar.
Traditional wolf outfit but with an oversized map. Act confused all night.
"Where" Wolf. (sigh)
(Wish I thought of this one)
Wear Jon Hamm style business casual, pack with slight muscles as needed, with wizarding pointy hat.
