Les Miserables is one of the greatest stories of all time and Hooper turned it into a decent movie.
Cats has virtually no story. So, this could be trouble.

This movie becoming a reality had to happen, and I'm glad Tom Hooper is doing it so that a more accomplished director won't waste two years of their lives on this.
Indeed. Keep Tom Hooper busy with shit that doesn't interest me.Quoting Ezee E (view post)

I always thought that, if they HAD to do it, they should make it an animated film.
Anyway, this is an opportunity for me to remind people that there was a time in this world, not too long ago, where this could be seen on MTV:

This HAS to be an animated project.
I've never seen the play but someone told me there are tap dancing cockroaches, which sounded kind of awesome.
Just because...
The Fabelmans (Steven Spielberg, 2022) mild
Petite maman (Céline Sciamma, 2021) mild
The Banshees of Inisherin (Martin McDonagh, 2022) mild
The last book I read was...
The Complete Short Stories by Mark Twain

What if they just flip everyone out and come out with a movie about the work of T.S. Eliot, as read by Ian McKellen?
The prospect of seeing Corden mug around wearing cat makeup is giving me hives.

Thanks to my sister's love of cats and musicals, I saw this play more than once when I was a kid. I enjoyed it then, but it's due for a re-watch now. My interest in this project is based on that.
I don't have a lot of hope for it because of Taylor Swift as an actress and Tom Hooper's affinity for pretentious off-center closeups.

Trailer coming this weekend, I think? But even after skimming the BTS clip I still can't fathom how it would translate to an actual film...
I mean:
I can't wait for the trailer though. Whichever way it goes it would be something to see alright.
Midnight Run (1988) - 9
The Smiling Lieutenant (1931) - 8.5
The Adventures of Robinhood (1938) - 8
Sisters (1973) - 6.5
Shin Godzilla (2016) - 7.5
What if they just did what they're doing in that promo for the whole movie, without any cat makeup. Like there's not even at attempt to put people in cat makeup. But keep them cat-sized on giant sets and all that. Shit that could actually work in a weird, hallucinatory way.

Yeah it looks awful but, like...was anyone expecting different?
At least when I finally get around to making my own live action cats movie, I know what not to do.
Yikes.
Btw, the Cats musical blows so I would expect this movie to blow also.
Red Band Trailer is looking much better:
