Not to extend it, but the Mary Poppins piece is still the worst thing in all of star wars.

It doesn't bother me in the least if people hate every aspect of ep8. It drives me up the wall when people (no one in this conversation!) say theres no precedent for things that occur in the movie.Quoting Ezee E (view post)
I thought the "Mary Poppins" bit was super creative.

Amen; I actually just watched this excellent vid essay dissecting just exactly why CS is so terrible, and why they're bad for film discourse online (of course, a third of the people who voted on it disliked it, showing how rabid Sins' fanbase is against any legitimate criticism):Quoting Grouchy (view post)

That was great. Those short vids from that channel are amazing.

Ugh, I've got this voice in the back of my head trying to convince me to buy the 4K disc that's released tomorrow.

I cannot believe how awful this was.
40 years of build up...for this.
Kathleen Kennedy should be demoted to playing a porg in Disney's theme parks.
Rumors are Disney isn't extending her contract next year. She's done.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
Good.
I have never seen such a poorly handled series in my life.
It is so clear that there was NO PLAN for this thing. They just made the first one then winged it.
Even the prequels, as horrid as they are, clearly had a storyline planned from 1-3.
I'm with ya. This is why Kevin Feige got a movie. If that thing makes $2 billion, they will realize it was a mistake from Day 1 to stick with Kennedy. Remember, she was a LucasFilm exec anyway. It wasn't Disney's first choice to own this franchise.
This is also probably why no major news has come out about the upcoming movies.
Well, not much of a positive, with THAT storyline...Quoting megladon8 (view post)

The emperor is back!
Oh wow, how?
...he's back!
Okay, but how? We saw him die. Is he a clone?
No he's not a clone.
Was he rescued by someone?
Nope!
Is he incapable of dying?
Of course he can die! He even has a line of dialogue saying he died!
Okay...so how is he back?
...he's back!!!!
I came up with a theory for this here. I wish it was cannon.Quoting megladon8 (view post)

Yep, what you wrote is smarter and more creative than anything they were even capable of.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
Have you seen or heard some of the interviews with the Stars, since this last movie came out?
Even they hated Kennedy.
Ridley is super bitter about how much they messed everything up, and she has said that it became a pretty regular occurrence for Kennedy to demand rewrites on scenes they are shooting that day. Apparently the ending was rewritten like 9 times.
I would really like to see Abrams' 4-1/2 hour cut and see if it improves anything.
Good read, Duke.
There was a story line in one of the (now de-canonized) novels...I can't remember which one...where the Emperor would punish a pupil by killing him and transferring the pupil's "essence" or "spirit" to another body so he could keep him alive to kill again.
I still would have loved some of the ideas from the comics to make their way into the movies.
The team of bounty hunters that the Emperor enlists to take out Vader was so cool. All non-force sensitive, but he gives them all technology and weapons to mimic force powers (jet packs, electrodes on their fingers, etc). And they each get a light saber.
There are an absolute WEALTH of better stories from those novels and comic books that are million times better than that third trilogy. I always thought it was complete foolishness they disavowed all that stuff when they could've drawn from it.Quoting megladon8 (view post)
Agreed 100% Skitch.
I cannot remember the last time such a huge property was so badly mishandled.
I mean, I still think the idea of recounting these last 3 movies is silly. You messed up, own it. Move forward.
But hot damn...what a mess.
How is it that they landed IN THE EXACT SPOT they needed to be standing in, to match up that stupid knife compass thing to the crashed Death Star?
