    Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Season 2)

Fun start. I love watching the team behave more like spies. Still all about the MacGuffins again, though, so nothing substantial to get excited about yet. Some thoughts I had while watching:

    - Seeing the Howling Commandos again is such a treat. I hope Neal McDonough shows up often in Agent Carter.

    - Called the Simmons thing almost immediately. [
    ]

    - Crazy how much better Brett Dalton is at playing creepy than playing Squarejaw Goodguy.

    - Legit laughed out loud at Coulson's impersonation of Talbot.

    - Reed Diamond is the man. Marvel continues to mine more recent characters rather than the classics. I can't believe we're already at a point where a Jonathan Hickman creation gets a live action portrayal.

I was actually just reading about Matt Damon and he’s like, ‘There’s a culture of outrage.’ I’m like, ‘Well, they have a reason to be outraged.’ I think it’s a lot of dudes just being scared. They’re like, ‘What if I did something and I didn’t realize it?’ I’m like, ‘Deal with it.’

Best episode of the series. I was entertained every single moment.

Also adding so many to main cast is a great idea. This show needs more people and it's great to see so many good actors I've liked in other things.

Well. This episode had be genuinely upset at one point and terribly anxious at another. Apparently I became emotionally invested in this show without realizing it.

Yeah, terrific episode. The changes they've made to Fitz, Simmons, Ward, and Skye aren't just a fresh makeover, they're a tenfold improvement on how those characters were in the first season.

In case there are Angel/SHIELD fans on the board:

Ward in the Box is Angelus in the Basement Redux, right? The writing, angles, facial expressions are really close.

I thought she looked really tall on the show, so I looked it up and turns out she's the exact same height as me. So everyone else on the show are short...?

If I gave up watching around the middle of the first season, should I just start back up at the beginning of this season?

Most people will tell you that the show got good in the last 6 post Winter Soldier episodes of S1, but even those were still partly tying up the awful Clairvoyant/Deathlok plot lines of that season.

Since the new season is pretty much a complete overhaul of the show, I think you can just jump right in. There are some major changes to the premise and the characters, but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out the new status quo.

There was some great stuff at the end of last season, but it would take ages to work up to it and may not be worth the trouble. Just start with this season.

Adrianne Palicki is 5' 11", which is really quite tall for a woman. I think they put her in heels, too. Simmons and May are both 5' 4", which is on the shorter side of normal, but she towered over them. Coulson is 5' 9".

I like Palicki's hair dark, but her HYDRA hair was really unflattering. It was marginally better once she let it down.

So, "queerbaiting" is a pretty loaded term, but there was a lot of it floating around this episode. Simmons fangirling over Bobbi, of course, was both adorable and a shorthand for the audience to know that we are supposed to be all over this girl. And Fitz subconsciously checking out Mac was pretty funny. Still, those two moments really highlighted how hetero the show has been so far. It's unusual for a show with this much Whedon involved to be so straight.

Yeah, I hope they play more with the Fitz/Mack thing. Would be interesting if he's so lonely that he just falls in love with anyone he's partnered with.

That's an interesting thought. Fitz definitely showed either jealousy or infatuation with both Skye and Ward last year, briefly, when partnered with them. In fact, his anger over Ward's betrayal had a tinge of heartbreak to it.

Badass episode last night, especially the Ward stuff. I wonder how long they can keep up this streak. Each episode has been better than the last.

I work in grocery. I have not gotten sick. My fellow employees have not gotten sick. If the virus were even remotely as contagious as its being presented as, why haven’t entire store staffs who come into contact with hundreds of people per day, thousands per week, all falling ill in mass nationwide?

I am totally into this. The team is getting great, the story lines are totally intriguing. The biggest misfire characters last year (Ward and Skye) are both fascinating this season. Mack and Trip need more fleshing out, but other than that I'm totally on board with these characters.

And this arc is perfect: answered a bunch of questions so we don't feel strung along, but opened up an intriguing new direction.

"Sebastian" is totally Bobby from Cougar Town and I am having trouble calling him anything but Bobby and I am also not finding him super scary as a result.

If it turns out this show shares a universe with Dollhouse I will be so happy. We can bring over Topher. And Adelle. I can totally see the Rossum Corporation being a front for Hydra.

Another terrific ep. Streak continues. Even the dialogue felt like it stepped up this ep, a bit impressed by that.

Ward's story, holy shit. That entire subplot kept me off my feet the whole time it was playing out this ep, not knowing where it was going. The news story twist is just WTF.

Kyle McLachlan is kinda amazing in this. Might be my favorite role of his since Twin Peaks. Loved the CG deaging in the flashback making him look like he did in Blue Velvet.

A waste of Dichen Lachman, though, in such a mute role. Hopefully she'll show up again in flashbacks in the future.

They basically all but said in this ep that it's definitely about Inhumans. The myth building is getting very intriguing. I love the heck out of the villian threeway set up at the end.

    My thoughts:

    Ahhh DICHEN LACHMAN YESSSSSS!

Why would you bring in Dichen Lachman to just cry and struggle?

    Nooooooooooooooooo Dichen Lachman!

    ***

Other than that; pretty good. If Ward really did just kill his brother and his parents, that is a really dark note to just throw away.

    Where is brother Thomas?
