This. On the other hand, there's the emperor's voice over. Perhaps seeing Rey be tempted will at least be engaging although there wasn't enough in the previous 2 to suggest this would be possible.Quoting megladon8 (view post)

Either a dream sequence or rather than a time travel approach, perhaps there's some type of cloning going on, replicating Palpatine/Rey/etc.

If it's nothing but misdirection, it's an enormously shitty misdirection.
Does a black robe and a red light saber definitely make a sith?

Luke was all black robed up in RotJ.
My money is on another Dark Side test, ala Luke in the cave in Empire.
In this movie universe, yesQuoting megladon8 (view post)
I would say red lightsaber yes, robes no.Quoting Irish (view post)
I’ve watched you sleeping in robes tons of times and never thought you were a Sith.Quoting Irish (view post)

Hey now I have wished for a Spaceballs sequel for years.
I like the new trailer, but it didn't reveal a whole lot to me. Most of it was old footage.

Prediction revision: Its a Kylo vision/dream, where Palpatine is teasing Kylo that maybe Rey is the one he wants and Kylo is too weak [insert evil Palpatine laugh and Kylo freak out].Quoting Skitch (view post)
So they have been replaying all Star Wars movies on TNT this weekend... caught the end of Empire... Does anyone have a rational reason or thought on why Luke would just jump off the skywalk? Was that him giving up after learning the news of his father... and he got lucky by falling right into a tube? Or did he foresee that?
Never really thought about it before. Wondering how everyone else takes this scene.
I watched the despecialized versions (but fuck all the changes) last week and ... I dunno.
I always interpreted it as nothing more than Luke's desire to get the hell away from Vader because Vader is a monster. A movie monster cuts off your hand and looms over you, most protagonists wouldn't stick around to see what he does next.
So he was merely just trying to get the fuck away, even if that means suicide?Quoting Irish (view post)
I have often questioned that scene, and I've come to believe it was "FUCK you, I'd rather die than join your (yes I mean it the way I spelled it) evil".
I've always thought its weird that we see Luke's hand and saber fall from the bottom of the city when he lands on the underside hanging bit as well. Its just a glimpse, but its there.
I never got a suicidal impulse from Luke, which would be pretty dark coming from Lucas and contrary to his stated desire to make movies for kids.Quoting Dukefrukem (view post)
I didn't think of it as suicide, more like sacrifice.Quoting Irish (view post)
Same.Quoting Skitch (view post)
I always wondered about that too. all three of them took the same little tube thing? all tubes lead to the same place? Luke waits a while before he falls, but somehow gets down there just in time to see his hand falling?Quoting Skitch (view post)
these are the kinds of things nerds in 2019 would make hour long youtube videos about if that movie came out today
The severed arm perfectly acquitted itself, because of the simplicity of its wishes and its total lack of doubt.
That'ts really funny. I NEVER thought it was his saber and hand when I saw that. I always thought it was just a piece of the antenna or some other debris from hitting the antenna.Quoting Skitch (view post)
I always took it the way Skitch said - Luke basically saying fuck you to Vader. He’d rather die than join him.
I don’t think Luke was thinking clearly enough to rationalize whether or not he would survive. He was just heartbroken and defeated in every way.
