That's a strange criticism of a film that is deliberately episodic and all over the place in order to show the absurdity of contemporary life (if the plot were more coherent, contemporary life wouldn't seem absurd and meaningless).

Then maybe it should have been a mini series or a TV show instead. Btw Pierrot le Fou addressed much of the same topics and was a much superior movie from him.
