A big part of MI's charm was is in its rotating directors and its relative rarity. They felt like event films because they only came around once every 3-5 years.
This new direction is an accounting plan, not a creative one. It makes the series into just another mega-blockbuster. Franchises always become less interesting when they pump out too many entries too quickly (eg: Star Wars).
