I think the combat gameplay in Mirror's Edge will make or break the game. I'm really curious how they will do that.

Well If EA has anything to do with it.. we should expect failure.

EA has been doing some good stuff lately. I see them making more of an effort. Just that this is gating made is proof.

Skate was awesome, and that game has totally shaken up that genre.

Now, sadly, I'd be more worried if Ubisoft had something to do with it. They'd probably call it Mirrorz Edgzez.

When the hell did this everything-EA-does-sucks myth come into acceptance anyway? They still put out a number of very good titles, don't they?

They have a bad reputation of eating up smaller developers and distributors to make a profit and then abandoning support for the game. Happened to both Battlefields, (2 and 2142), Crysis, Red Alter and C&C.

Really? That was the main lure of the game for me. I've only played it once, and loved it.
Trying drums was the main reason i purchased the game and after playing through it once with drums i'm sure i'll never play using them again. I much prefer the microphone (which i thought i would never use) or the guitar.

I don't think I can play Condemned 2. I got it from Gamefly this week, fired it up tonight, and it's too scary for me.

I have my set up down in the basement, and it's really dark down there. And this game scares the crap out of me.

For all the terrible things and games EA has done, I forgave them for Skate. That is going to be top 5 in my games of the year easily.

It's awesome. I need to get back into it.

Like most open world games, I start playing, then I just start goofing off, and then, dozens of hours later I realize that I've hardly touched the real game and then I'm done with it.

I'm playing it right now. Like the first, I only play it late at night, in my basement, lights out, with surround sound. The sound design in these games is fantastic and provides the majority of the tension.

A friend of mine came over to play the first one and actually put down the controller during the first level and said, "I can't do this. I'm about to have a heart attack. I cannot do this." He went out and bought the game to try to conquer it on his own, but to this day is too scared to get past the third chapter.

My favorite scare so far in Condemned 2:

I don't think the combat is an integral part of the game so I don't see how it can make or break the game. In the combat stakes, I suspect disarmament will be its primary focus rather than murder.

In any case, this is a project to get much excited over. Could be a real zen experience too when the perfect trajectory is found without so much as blinking.

That intense eh? I'm curious to find out now. I remember giving up on Resident Evil for the PSone back in 1996. That was the only time although I eventually persevered with a little help from my brother.

By the way, first HL: Episode 3 artwork:

This was made by Valve guys Ted Backman, Jeremy Bennet en Tristan Redford. More will be shown at E3.

    Awesome!

    YES! Thank you!

That was one of the most frustrating bosses I have ever encountered. It ceased to even be fun to try to overcome him.
"All right, that's too hot. Anything we can do about that heat?"

    "Rick...it's a flamethrower."

Well, the vibe I'm getting from all the released info and screens is that it will be a very melee focused FPS game. And I have yet to experience a FPS game that has a good melee combat system. I think it would look so weird and clunky seeing punches and kicks from a first person perspective. I imagine the camera would be all over the place.

But I hope they have found a way to make it work, because it would be a waste to see such a nice looking game with bad gameplay.

First Deadliest Catch, now Gordon Ramsay. :P

If you were wondering which tv-show would get a game adaptation next...Hell's Kitchen: The Game was just announced. Probably won't have a M-rating though.

Today Ubisoft announced that it will publish Hell’s Kitchen™: The Video Game, for Wii™, Nintendo DS™, PC and Mac®. Developed by Ludia, Hell’s Kitchen: The Video Game is based on the U.S. hit FOX television program from Granada America featuring world-renowned Chef Gordon Ramsay. The game will allow players to experience the show’s high-pressure kitchen and dining room challenges as a faithfully rendered 3D Chef Ramsay watches their every move.

“I had a great time doing the voice for my own animation,” said Gordon Ramsay. “Being in a video game is a new experience for me and I’m very pleased with the results.”

After executing the three phases of an order – preparation, cooking and service – Chef Gordon Ramsay will score each meal. As they progress through the game, players will be rewarded with access to recipes from Chef Ramsay’s own repertoire.

“Hell’s Kitchen has everything a great video game needs: pressure, excitement and intense competition,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft North America. “We are very excited to be bringing the intensity of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and the Hell’s Kitchen experience to the virtual world this fall.”

Hell’s Kitchen: The Video Game will be released worldwide September 2008.

    Key Features:

    * Chef Ramsay watches players’ every move and judges them as they progress by yelling at them, praising them or shutting down the kitchen if their skills don’t meet his expectations.
    * As players progress, they’ll gain access to authentic Gordon Ramsay recipes, including many that are offered exclusively to game owners.
    * In Career Mode, players can earn stars to build their way up from a Single-Star restaurant to a prestigious Five-Star establishment. As the player advances through the ranks, their star rating advances and the recipes become more varied and intricate.
    * In Arcade Mode, the pressure builds as customers become increasingly demanding. Players will be challenged to keep up with the pressure before time is up, or Chef Ramsay loses patience and closes the kitchen.

I stand by the lights, the Krill still kill me. I seek cover from the boss, the ships on the side kill me. I shoot the ships down, the boss shoots me while I'm behind cover. I know I have to shoot the ships down so my heli puts the light on the Krill surrounding the boss, but it doesn't matter. He slays me. I think the longest I've survived so far is a minute and a half.

Seeing a bunch of Youtube videos made me realize it wasn't really that hard. Nonetheless, what an horrendously boring finale. Truly worthless crap compared to any boss encounter in Metroid Prime corruption which is what I'm playing these days. I'm stuck though and I was wondering if I could get a little nudge.

    HELP!

I'm in Skytown and need to locate three bomb components to fabricate a nuclear device to kill the Seed that has invaded the planet. So I can see where the three bomb components are on the map except I can't do anything apparently. My computer has informed me that some pirate activity was detected and that I should investigate it because it will yield me a new weapon. I can see the location on the map - blue of course because hitherto unexplored - but have no idea how to get there. There are some distant platforms that could lead me to his blue area, but whatever I do, they're too far away and I can't reach them. I have the item that allows me to perform a space jump and spin forward into distant platforms, but this ability seems futile at this point I've a suspicion that this weapon will be the one that allows me to shoot multiple targets simultaneously. There are some locks, yellow spots, in Skytown - one for a cannon and one for a bomb component - that have to be shot at the same time to open.

Anyway, be as subtle as you can be. Or tell me I'm an idiot and the solution is right in front of me.

You would think that the creators of Metroidvania would be more understanding.
