I could (and very well may eventually) write a full blown rant on this movie, but I've just been exhausted with so much negativity lately that I really don't have the energy to exert any more right now. But basically, I actually didn't hate this movie, but my god is it glaringly problematic in so many regards. With better editing and all of the obnoxious narrating completely removed, there could've been something decent here, even if the most interesting aspect of the movie is relegated to the background for the most part (and I'm honestly curious how much of the backstory was actually filmed, versus what was shown, because if this idea was presented in a more linear narrative fashion, then there's a really interesting movie in here somewhere that we just didn't see). But as is, this movie has its moments, but is overall just a complete and total mess.

That said, the most awesomely awful part of this thing is probably seeing some young actor playing a younger version of Harrison Ford's character, and doing his best Harrison Ford impression in the process. The fact that they try to play it off completely straight only makes it even more hilariously bizarre.

Earnest melodrama that feels sturdily classical (except if made in the 40s-50s the premise would probably be supernatural instead of pseudo-scientific) with a credible Lively lead turn. Seriously hampered by the main romance though, either by writing or Huisman's performance (likely both), which comes off unconvincing and bland in this context, when the focus should be on the premise's passage of time, in potent characterization and poignant performances from Burstyn and especially Ford. 6/10
